I love the live acoustic-ish version of this song where he sings "psuedo punk, hip hop, J LO junk" He may have just taken it out to avoid insulting anybody, but I personally like "J Lo" in there over "pop-rock"...but either works! Anyway, I love the song. I love that he's not afraid to let people know that the music industry plain pisses him off. So many of us have been thinking it and have wanted to pull our hair out listening to the "Smack that" junk all over mainstream radio, so it's about time someone with some credibility said something about it. He realizes that it's very unlikely that we'll ever have any "legends" arise again because of the way the industry is running things nowadays. I'm glad he called hip hop junk too. I don't think all of it's bad, and I think he probably doesn't either, but with all this hip hop that people think is good quality music lately, you just wanna be like "keep your hip hop junk" because it's so horrible and laughable that people actually think it's amazing. |

I think this song is pretty good at describing where a lot of people may find themselves at some point in their lives. I actually don't view it as anti-religious at all but more as wanting to hold onto your spiritual beliefs, trust in your friends, etc, but the world is telling you that it's all a bunch of nonsense, your friends have betrayed you, and as a result you see your heart turning "to stone." This is where you realize it's much better to have faith/trust in some things and just believe for the sake of believing rather than doubting everything because you wind up happier, more content, etc with life believing. And if it's all non-existant, then it's certainly not useless anyway since it makes your life so much more meaningful and enjoyable. |
