Pantero is right, except it isn't Lucifer, it is Mephisto, who wants to get back into heaven to be with God. Mephisto refused to bow to man with the other angels because he loved God to much. |

I have read Paradise lost, and Satan shows remorse for his destruction...the line "so I'll savour the downfall... of paradise" is his decision to go through with his plan after being awed by the beauty of Adam, Eve, and the Garden. Satan is portrayed as an epic hero a la the Odyssey or the Aeneid, a warrior fighting against oppression. This song is also before eve of seduction, the actual fall of man. |

I am pretty sure that the lyrics in the small verse are "Only I know the way" instead of "only along the way"; this album has something to do with Milton's paradise lost, and Satan is the only one that knows the way out of hell in the epic poem. |
