| Does anyone else think this is about sex? I mean the idea was planted in my head by the line "who strokes your feathers until you scream" ('feathers' here being a loose metaphor...) but the rest of the song works with it. He's just sick of the world, everything's too complicated and he wants to forget everything in his past, but it's all in the moment with her and he just escapes into it... I think it's a nice complement to "Nothing Left to Say but Goodbye," if we assume he's talking about the same relationship. | |

hmm... everyone's debating whether or not this is about him finding god, i guess we'd just have to see how religious isaac slade is... but since this is a "what does this song mean to you" section, here goes (sorry if i offend anyone, but i am entitled to atheism): to me, this song means that 'god' is no longer the one you have to depend on. the fact that it says "smoking his last cigarette" invokes a very human perspective on the 'savior' everyone looks to... i think this song means that we should depend on people instead. i know he doesn't say it, but he portrays god as being sort of impotent, and having gotten to him "just a little late" (of course, that could be interpreted to mean "just in time", but i don't think so.) he says that everyone ends up alone, but i think that is in reference to the love he lost, or possibly a description of how he felt when he wrote the song. i have been dealing with depression, like buffyfan145 and millions of others, but i'm slowly getting through it on my faith in people... for some reason, even if this song doesn't sound optimistic, i sort of see it as pointing in that direction. |

i agree with gabbitastic, most of the song makes sense with the idea that she has a crush. playing it like a game is them flirting but nothing ever happens; it makes no sense that all he's doing is looking when they could be together; obviously, "let's be more than this"; and the one "two" she was counting on was.. them as a couple? maybe? hmm? but i can't figure out who "they" are. i thought maybe it's about gossip, and "they taped over your mouth / scribbled out the truth with their lies / your little spies" might be like the people talking behind their backs about their little crush, and every time someone tells someone else, they warp the truth with their lies. it's a stretch but it's really all i can think of! |
