Anyone ever seen the movie The Picture of Dorian Grey? (i haven't read the book); i know morrissey has refered to it in another song... Well, i always thought the movie and this song went somewhat along together for example: You had to sneak into my room "Just" to read my diary "It was just to see, just to see," (All the things you knew I'd written about you...) Oh-so-many illustrations Oh, but I'm so very sickened Oh, I am so sickened now Well, -someone sneaks into the the upper lever room where he keeps the portriats -Before he shows Basil the portrait upstairs he says, "I keep a diary of my life from day to day, and it never leaves the room in which it is written. I shall show it to you if you come with me." -by "so many illustrations" i think he means the portrait upstairs that basil painted. -by "very sickened.."- Dorian reveals the potrait and is very sickened by how it looks, and ends up stabing Basil -The part of the song when he says "i'm so sorry" could possibly be towards Basil for murdering him -the rest of the song when he says "why do you come here when you know it makes things hard for me..." is how he feels as he is paranoid about anyone finding his portrait. Anyways, no clue where "good lay" comes in... but that's my interpretation; i might have looked a bit too into it though :). Oh, and i absolutely love this song! |

I absolutely love this song, especially: And make no mistake, my friend Your pointless life will end- But before you go, Can you look at the truth ? You have a lovely singing voice A lovely singing voice ! And all of those Who sing on-key They stole the notion From you and me! My interpretation: Life is short, and you ought to sing if you want to. :) |
