Cherry Poppin' Daddies – Zoot Suit Riot Lyrics 7 months ago
There's a good PBS documentary on youtube called Zoot Suit Riots if you want to learn some history. It's what the song is based on.

Pavement – Starlings of the Slipstream Lyrics 10 months ago
I think this is a reference to Noam Chomsky's book, Manufacturing Consent.

The first verse is about Starlings(birds known to fly in large flocks) possibly taking out an airplane and killing someone important.

First verse goes on to create anger and fear among the populous. They're robbing the skies, aka we've got to kill these birds.

The first verse finishes with the masses droning on about the Starlings in the slipstream, which makes no sense because a slipstream is behind the engine. But that's the point, you've been brainwashed into believing the lies you've been fed.

The last verse consists of random statements that you may be just as likely to believe, and then just the ramblings of someone who lost all cognitive ability.

Bruce Springsteen – I'm on Fire Lyrics 7 years ago
For me this is what Nebraska would've sounded like with a band and producer. Love it. Still gritty and raw.

The Clash – Death or Glory Lyrics 8 years ago
Death or Glory. We all have good intentions when we're young and think we'll fight to the death for them. In the end we all try and survive and end up conforming, unless you're the clash.

A Tribe Called Quest – We Can Get Down Lyrics 8 years ago
When the Tribe is in the house that means nobody is safe
How can a reverend preach, when a rev can't define
The music of our youth from 1979
We rap by what we see, meaning reality
From people busting caps and like Mandela being free
Not every MC be with the negativity
We have a slew of rappers pushing positivity
Hip hop will never die yo, it's all about the rap
So Mayor Barry smoking crack, let's preach about that.

Phife died today. This was something that always sticked with me. . Love ya Phife Dawg.

The Replacements – Portland Lyrics 8 years ago
Sounds like a bands tour recollection. From sitting on an airplane wasting time playing cards and drinking:

Shared a cigarette for breakfast
Shared an airplane ride for lunch
Sitting in between a ghost
And a walking bowl of punch
Can you play a little hunch?

Predicting a delay on landing
Well I predict we'll have a drink
Lost my money on the first hand
Got burned on a big fat king

To landing and seeing a beggar or maybe a baggage handler:

Sitting like a backwoods junkie
Caught down in a servant trust
Look at the funny monkey
Putting silver in his cup

To seeing another band doing the same thing(touring)or just regular people Traveling, living on credit.

Shared a cigarette for breakfast
Shared a pack of lies for lunch
Credit card almighty
Bringing in the next little bunch.

My favorite time sig of any of the Clash songs. Bass and drums kill it.

The Beatles – Come Together Lyrics 8 years ago
When John says he's "got feet down below his knees" I think it means that he's incapable of kneeling to anyone, that with "he's one spinal cracker" goes to show it's his way or the highway. which is what inevitably what happened.

for the longest time I never knew this song was about the beatles themselves. Amazing song.

@[d9930380:8005] I like your interpretation. Also, who parks cars in outer space? Being filled with parking cars is a reference to dicks perhaps? Great song. Cheers!

I truly think they are gonna be more respected in a decade much like the Pixiies were. which is kinda sad with how music can be easily shared these days. I love them.

Trying to write a song, expected a girl to inspire them, her likewise. Nothing happened. Making something out of nothing. Make your own inspiration, not a let down.

The Glands – Mayflower Lyrics 9 years ago
Athenian here and love The Glands. It's been over a decade and no comments, so I'll gladly be the first.

Firstly, The Mayflower is a diner in Athens as well as that Pilgrim thing.

My interpretation of this song is that there was a lot of smoke that was blown up their ass from the record company. "You have many noble features, and the roots that run so deep they go all the way to China"(everyone digs you)

And then struggling with promotion of it: "If you squeeze a little closer then you'll all the fit in the frame
And everybody smile"

California is the way, they still play the double feature: Being told to relocate to a bigger market(and note double feature of course being record execs getting the name wrong should be double thriller; their first album,)

But you'll have to learn to drive: my take, means yer on yer own guys.

As far as the "I come, the new bull" line goes i dunno. Could be the were a little disillusioned and said hey, here we are the new bull brought out by this shit company.

Anyway, Ross and the rest of the Glands have touched my life and a lot of my friends. I wish that you would make more music, but thank you for what you have made.

M. Ward – Paul's Song Lyrics 17 years ago
the first m. ward song i heard and instantly fell in love with his music.

not sure if the posted lyric of " And the waitress says she'll meet you with a frown" I always heard "and the waitresses all meet you with a frown" which sounds right to me, and is my favorite line.

I work in the service industry and they really all do greet you with a frown, even when they're smiling at you. just genius.
