anyone else think it's "spill the wine, DRINK that girl" ? that's what I thought it was when I was a kid and first listening to it though in my recent frequent enjoyment of this song I can definitely see it being "take that pearl/girl" but spill the wine, drink that girl seems to be more connected than the other two could be just me... |

I'm going to take a more litteral view at theses lyrics than some on here i believe that he is speaking of a boy and girl hving sex and her getting pregnant and in turn getting an abortion first. "Everything that keeps me together is falling apart I've got this thing that I consider my only art of fucking people over. My boss just quit the job says he's goin out to find blind spots and he'll do it." the boy feels that in his young age, his love for this girl is the one thing keeping him going, and once he knocks her up, everything falls apart, and he deffinately fucked both him and his girl over as for the second part............i'm completely at a loss, unless he's saying that his dad threw a bitch fit and is going to do something pointless instead of being there for his son next. "The 3rd planet is sure that they're being watched by an eye in the sky that can't be stopped. When you get to the promise land your gonna shake that eyes hand." the 3rd planet (the child) is being observed by the parents, and when it gets delivered to the outside world, it will greet it's parents i'd like to add that at first i believed this to be a god to man metaphor, but if you'll listen to modest mouse, isaac bashes god more so than praise him (which i love btw) also, the god way doesn't fit with the rest of the song's supposed meaning next. "Your heart felt good it was drippin' pitch and made of wood. And your hands and knees felt cold and wet on the grass to me. Well, outside naked, shiverin' looking blue, from the cold sunlight that's reflected off the moon. Baby cum angels fly around you reminding you we used to be three and not just two. " i think this section litterally means they fucked outside and the abortion comes into play when he talks about the cum flying around her, reminding them of the time when the cum went in her and got her pregnant, and a third planet came into play, then they got an abortion and are now back to two the way their world began, and the way they intend on it to end next. "A 3rd had just been made and we were swimming in the water didn't know then was it a son was it a daughter. When it occurred to me that the animals are swimming around in the water in the oceans in our bodies and another had been found another ocean on the planet given that our blood is just like the Atlantic." they just found out she was pregnant, and they were swimming then the boy realized that them swimming in the water is like the unborn child in the womb (you can peice together all the different metaphors yourself) next. "Well, the universe is shaped exactly like the earth if you go straight long enough you'll end up where you were." firstly, i'd like to state that this is one of the most brilliant lines i've ever read but this, in contrast to the rest of the peice, is in my opinion not something to be translated litterally he is saying that the figurative universe (life and all that consists in it) is like the physical earth meaning that if you keep doing the same thing (ie traveling the same path) you're just going to end up right from where you started |
