| I just started listening to this song recently and have already listened to it like 50x its such a beautiful song... my take on the song is that its inspired by a story... basically it goes like this - the speaker is at a party and he finds it and the people in the party uninviting, uninteresting and easy to see through because they are 'black and white'... he comes upon a girl who's at the party whom to himself seems unlike the rest. i think hes speaking in retrospect and describing the story to someone or going over it in his head - anyways the speaker is a lonely guy who cant seem to find love - so he craves to get with a girl at this party as a cheap assimilation of the real thing (love)... the girl understands this and doesnt expect much out of the act- as well its important to note that the speaker thinks hes not good enough for the girl because he wants to 'dim the lights so his scars cant be seen' this implies the speaker and the girl are on the same level of thinking, the girl, being understanding of what this sad guy needs... 'thank you for being that kind of girl' ... i think its a very melancholy look at the kinds of things people go through in relation to the pursuit of love... high points and low points in ones life as well as humans understanding what each another needs... just my take on it... quite sad - i wouldnt want to ever be in that state of mind... especially because simply imagining it is depressing heh | |

| When i first heard this song I was living with both parents at the same time, but i heard this song again a while ago and saw the video and it made me analyze my relationship with my parents now that they are split-up... the events that happen in the video resonate back to me in my own situation and i took solace in the fact that people go through the same shit as me and still live decent lives by becoming stronger after the fact. its a great song that conveys alot of emotions and sheds light on a very real and impactful part of peoples lives; ones relationship with their parents. | |

This is my take on the song: I think the 'monster' is 'existensialism' and the need to find purpose in ones life. this search although gives purpose to ones life is at the same time harmful because the journey is a drain on ones happiness if they cant find direction. with relation to my idea the lines about the bending light and the flowers leaning towards the sun.. i think the person bending light simply shows people who effect the path his journey is taking. possibly 'god'. the most interesting lines are " Some people fall in love & touch the sky Some people fall in love & find quicksand " falling in love could be the pursuit of happiness and consequently 'touching the sky' or 'finding quicksand' represent the resulting conclusions one comes to when looking for purpose to ones life. the sky being a successful purpose and quicksand being a never ending hole that the purpose-seeker cant escape. |

| I think this song is simply painting a picture of a farewell between two lovers.. the major focus of the song is based on the two kissing before one departs for war or w/e... the lyrics are spoken from the perspective of the soldier who is telling their beloved that dont worry about my future or my safety because it takes away from the present moment where we should be sharing our feelings for each other in a last passionate kiss. on the other hand the reference to November 11th is very interesting. I think its a reference to veterans day and proposes an image to the music listeners mind that when world war 1 first started young soldiers were kissed and sent off to war. meeting on november 11th is could be a tribute to those that died in ww1. | |

I think the meaning of this song is not in specific lines but as a message as a whole... there are a few themes/questions that are repetitious throughout the song like: who is there to support 'us' and the pursual of the truth 'what is the truth' this song to me is generally both sad and uplifting. sounds like the leader of a tribe trying to rally his people to forget that which has torn their culture/society apart and rebuild by seeking the truth. |
