i can relate to this song tooo much. it remind me of my relationship with my ex boyfriend. to me this song is about being vulnerable to someone else, trying so hard to do everything for that person when they are not worth it and later coming to realize that. he describes everything he gave in the relationship that only left him in tears. basically he tried so hard for nothing. eventually he realizes that this person is a horrible person and and he finally sees the real person this person is. "im on the outside" to me is like when me and my ex finally broke up for a good while then he tried getting me back and i was over it. i had been trying for too many years and it was done. i finally could see and realize that the whole time he was this heartless person. i saw it when i was finally out of the relationship like "on the outside". |

this song to me describes a relationship that has fallen apart. i think the girl's trying to hold on even though they both know it's best that it' s over. he's telling her that he can't say the real reasons why it's over it just is. it doesn't worka nymore. he's telling her to stop hurting and get some rest.
"resolve is just a concept that's as dead as the leaves" - he's saying that they can try to make it work so many times but it's pointless now. the love has dies out. he's not saying it in a bad way....just those kind of things that you can't explain and just have to accept that the time is up.
i can totally see how it could be about someone dying too. i imagine someone with an illness or something and he knows that this person has only so long to live. sio he's hurt but at the same time trying to console this person and tell them that everything will be ok.
