I love, love, love this song. Probably my favorite from the album; I listen to it constantly. :) This song seems to be about a failing relationship. In the first verse it sounds like the girl has heard some rumors about the guy, so she doesn't trust him anymore. He's telling her that he has (somehow) shown her the rumors aren't true (actions speak louder than words) so she shouldn't believe them (forget what you heard). He knows their relationship won't work (I don't think we'll survive; waiting for the fall out) if she doesn't trust him. She obviously didn't believe in him since he's left alone. :( Yeah, he's definitely not saying "Never going to the same town"... Corrections: "And I don't think we'll survive I'll fall from up so high My tears drop, waiting for the fall out (This must be the way down) And it won't stop, everything's a blur now (This must be the way down) Everything was bound to change Now I know I could've saved us (This must be the way down) And now that the smoke is gone I can see that I'm all alone Forever has been long enough" |

"And we’ll ride… the rails, with our pistols drawn" could refer to... "riding the rail was a punishment of Colonial America in which a man was made to straddle a fence rail held on the shoulders of two men, with other men on either side to keep him upright on the rail. The victim was then paraded around town. Alternately it can refer to tying a person's hands and feet around a rail so the person dangles under the rail. Other references mention it being used as punishment for Confederate prisoners in Union POW camps during the American Civil War" |
