It's unfortunate to see such over-analyzation of something so incredible.

Unwritten Law – Save Me (Wake Up Call) Lyrics 18 years ago
Now for my real comment. It's laughable how there has been proof, like exact quotations to the songwriter for proof of what it's about and some people are too hard headed to get that.

I myself am an addict, and I think i've said all of the things said in this song. "You can't change me" "You can't save me" "Had a bad day, don't talk to me" all of it. This song definately expresses exactly how an addict feels when the people that care about them try to force them out of their habits.

"my little black heart breaks apart with your big mouth" His friends and family might think they're helping, but constantly reminding him he's screwed himself over, and only ruining his life is not helping. How could it? In the second verse, he puts HIMSELF down, because he realizes that he really has become everything these people say about him.

When he says "everything's my fault" I gain so muchy respect for him, because I know so many addicts who blame their addiction on any number of things, when in reality you swallowed your first pill, snorted your first line or injected your first shot. It was nobody else, and it is solely your fault. It hurts to think of it that way, but that's the reality.

I don't relate to the parts about the doctor, or the rehabs, since i've never been to either, but good for him for trying to make things better.
"I went to heaven
I Couldn't get in
For what I had done
I said please take me
They said you're crazy
You had too much fun"

That can be literal for a believer in heaven and hell, or metaphorical for someone like myself. It was fun at first, definately, and I thought it would bring me to this excellent level of happiness (heaven) but instead, i'm stuck being brought lower and lower every day I come down. (hell).

Such a great song that expresses exactly how most addicts feel. It definately makes me think a LOT and it's nice knowing that maybe my friends and family don't understand, but there is somebody else out there who gets it.

fallingXfast, before I add my actual comment I would like to point out your utter idiocy. You just whined about how that person was insensitive towards what you believe, and then attacked him for what he believes.

Secondly, with chaotic fire, you made random assumptions about their parents, without knowing anything about the situation. Lots of addicts know the dangers of drugs and do them anyways. Let me rephrase that actually. All addicts know the dangers of drugs and do them anyways.

I didn't realize you were such an idiot, becuase I agreed completely with your first post.

Sheryl Crow – If It Makes You Happy Lyrics 18 years ago
To be honest, I'm not a fan of Sheryl's at all. I haven't heard this song either. I read the lyrics in a friends MSN name and was immediately drawn to it.

The chorus made me think of drugs, possibly becuase i'm in the middle of an addiction myself. It's biased, but it fits.

"I've been a long long way from here" meaning that she used to be clean, and happy, and she goes on to tell about the fun times of her life.

"If it makes you happy
It can't be that bad
If it makes you happy
Then why the hell are you so sad" Anybody who has suffered through addiction immediately relates to this. It brings you so high, and takes you so low, and you do think that how can something so great be so bad?

"You get down, real low down" Self explanatory. I think what she says about the french toast again is wishful thinking about the possible good times ahead if the addiction was overcome.

Then she says straight up she still get's stoned, and coudln't be brought home. Who's parents would be impressed with a drug addict?

Then she goes back to the good memories and states "Well, o.k. we get along
So what if right now everything's wrong?".

I don't know, to me it just screams addiction. I could be completely wrong though. I'm looking forward to hearing the song.

The Spill Canvas – Catch The Wind Lyrics 18 years ago
It doesn't really matter when it was written, it's a theme anybody, anywhere, at any time can relate to.

It's incredible. He sings it very well. And the Harmonica is great.

The Spill Canvas – The Dutch Courage Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with basically what everybody else has said.

I see the main theme as alcoholism however, instead of not caring what other people think.
"Chemicals and Gin" "Inebriated" "Dutch Courage" It all points to a drinking problem.

I think that "We were born and raised the same way so what gives you the right to say" is from the point of view as the alcoholics friend. They grew up together, and lived similar lives, why is one of them spiralling downwards while the other is okay?

The Promise Ring – Best Looking Boys Lyrics 18 years ago
I always pictured this song as two best friends. Me and my old best friend used to joke about us being the best looking boys, that's probably why.

Jimmy Eat World – Drugs Or Me Lyrics 18 years ago
Such an incredible song. It has a very special meaning to me.

I've recently gotten into really heavy drugs, and everytime I hear this song I picture my best friend. She's actually told me things like "I can't tell you from the drugs" and a few weeks ago she told me how much she wished I'd just stop. I never realized how much it was hurting people close to me, and I still can't manage to stop.

Such a sad song, it always really effects me.

I love how it sounds like a breakup song. I downloaded this song before reading the lyrics, and read along as I listened, and I was thinking "It's an okay love song, I guess" and then you learn that they didn't break up, she died. It was a great twist in an amazing song.

The Get Up Kids – Long Goodnight Lyrics 18 years ago
I might be biased here, but every line seems to point to drugs to me.
"Every attempt to is filled with holes..." He tries to stop using, but can't.
"It reads like a polygraph i'm told." It defines him, it's become his truth.
"I'm not bitter anyway. Let it go." I can see an addict constantly saying "Let it go", and he clearly IS bitter that it's gotten the best of him, but he denies it anyways.
"I never sleep still lest I forget.
Tied down by handicaps instead." Lest he forget what he was like before he messed himself up, and the handicaps would be the substances.
"I'm not bitter anyway,
But I didn't want it to turn out this way." Nobody wants to turn out that way, but he's still denying it really bugs him.
"Sing a long goodnight,
forfeit any fight.
Refuse to rest assured." He's given up fighting it. He can't stop, so he's stopped trying to stop.
"If it all ended tonight,
you know that I wouldn't mind.
It'd be back to good old times before it won." Depression usually comes with drug addiction, so the fact that he doesn't care if he make it or not isn't surprising.

Amazing song. AMAZING BAND. I love it. :)
