Muse – Unintended Lyrics 18 years ago
In my opinion I think this song is all about irony. The words are directed to matt’s current lover, but he’s completely talking about his past companion. I think in this song he displays so painfully well just how intimately he loved his former lover. I don’t know how his former lover has been separated from him, but from judging by the tone of the song/melody it’s probably through death and it’s this loss he is so eagerly expressing to his current lover, cruel as it is. The entire “you could be” lines are indicative of that, along with the chorus basically saying that his mind is not up to date with his current lover, but caught in the romantic past of his loss. I think this following line is the most powerful out of all the song “First there was the one who challenged all my dreams and all my balance, she could never be as good as you.” This is so cruelly ironic in the sense that in the first part of the sentence, he describes his past lover so intimately, almost as if he’s digressing into a daydream of the past describing a goddess, then snapping back into reality then just throwing in “she could never be as good as you.”….what a lie. The final words “before you” once again just completely douses any kind of hope for his current lover…as he just drags on and on with his falsetto those two words. WHAT A BRILLIANT SONG. MATTHEW BELLAMY is a GENIUS
