Im not really a history buff but i beleive that this song has to do with the cival war. The south had a flag with a rattle snake on it and the slogan of the flag was DONT TREAD ON ME! hence the phrase: Liberty or death, what we so proudly hail. Once you provoke her, Rattling of her tail. this has to do with how Americans had fought together proudly against the british, and how the were so proud. but the north wanted to stop slavery and the south felt provoked. Never Begins it, never, but once engaged. Never surremders, showing the fangs of rage. also how when they got mad at the south they were ready to attack. |
