| Soil – Halo Lyrics | 11 years ago |

"Let he who is without sin cast the first stone." -Jesus After hearing this song for over a decade, I finally found what it means to me. Jesus said the above quote to save a woman from being stoned to death. Everyone who wanted to stone her realized they had sins of their own. In this song, the singer says he is "pure inside", meaning he is without sin and he will stone you! Pretty badass in my opinion. |

Good call, I wasn't aware of the methadone connection or the matching lyrics with Angry Chair. I think it is implied that he craves "someone to hold against my own" but he is looking in the wrong places, "the house of ill repute." This, paired with his addictions, make the song a confession of his feelings at the time. His answer is in the last lyric- "My need is within me, a gift from above." |

| Alice in Chains – Don't Follow Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is about home. The first part is about how he's sick of home and just wants to be on his own and forget everyone. In the second part, he regrets leaving and wants to go back. Not every song was about drugs! Damn! However, I will argue that in the line "Do whatever to get me by" he's actually saying "Do whatever to get me high." But Layne's life was not all about drugs, drugs were only one component of his life. |

| Alice in Chains – Put You Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| After thinking about it some more, why does it have to be hardcore drugs? It could be about pot, beer, cigarettes.. As a matter of fact, this song could be about anything you wish you could stop, but don't. | |

| Mad Season – All Alone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| It used to trouble me a lot about being alone. But as this song helped me to realize, We Are All Alone. RIP Layne Staley | |
| Alice in Chains – Swing On This Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| In this song, Layne is just sick of everyone. He wants to be alone. I doubt its about rehab. He might not be in perfect health, but he'll be better off without everyone else. I feel the same way about my parents, but maybe not my brothers and sister. | |
| Alice in Chains – I Stay Away Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Instead of writing about the depression associated with loneliness, Layne wrote I Stay Away to glorify being alone. Being alone sucks, but it has its benefits. The cellos make this song stand out like no other song you've ever heard, be it rock, metal, alternative, or whatever you listen to. I think of this song as personal anthem for me and (hopefully) for others who find comfort in loneliness. |

| Alice in Chains – Over Now Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It might be about the band breaking up. I prefer thinking they wrote this song knowing Layne would die prematurely. I think the one trumpet in the beginning is for the death of one great person, not a whole band. Actually, its about drugs, just like all the other songs (sarcasm). |

| Alice in Chains – Rooster Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"Seems every path leads me to nowhere... The bullets scream to me from somewhere..." Those two lines are so powerful, when I hear Layne scream the word "scream" i feel as if I'm actually in Vietnam, knowing they're shooting at me but I have no idea where they are. AIC's music always got into your head. |

| Alice in Chains – No Excuses Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"Hands are bruised from breaking rocks all day" If you think this line is about drugs, you better share the ones you're on. This line in particular is about work, and working a lot. I think the whole song is about friendship. "Drained and blue I bleed for you You think it's funny, well You're drowning in it too" This is about sacrificing for someone who doesn't appreciate it as much as they should. "And if we change, well I love you anyway" This line means so much to me. You'll be friends with someone, but if the day comes you're not friends anymore, "I love you anyway." I even think its romantic. |

Pictures in a box at home Yellowing and green with mold So I can barely see your face Wonder how that color taste They sing this verse a capella on Unplugged. Nothing short of amazing. |

| Alice in Chains – Put You Down Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| This is one of my favorite alice in chains songs, but then again, I say that about almost every AIC song. Anyways, my favorite line is "Personality overview" because I have a habit of overviewing and analyzing my personality, and this song makes me think Layne and/or Jerry did the same. | |
