In my opinion, this song is about someone who religion was forced upon and it ultimately led to them losing their faith altogether. "Last night they said the fire had spread and we said our prayers. And now the flames are burning me in my bed, but I just don't care" -Something bad was going to happen (in this case a "fire") so the people just simply prayed, hoping that God would save them from the fire but he didn't, so now he's burning in his bed but he doesn't care because it must have been God's plan. "We all go to sleep in the same place and in the morning, hope that we're all the same. Just sit around like broke down cars in the lot waiting for repairs." -The visual I get with this song is an older person who lived a life of poverty but was raised to be very religious. They all sleep in the same place, meaning everyone as humans are the same, but some strive for what others have. If everyone "was all the same" those who are less fortunate than others would never be looked down upon. However, since they have their faith, they're just sitting around like a broke down car in a lot waiting for repairs - they're waiting for God to give them a better life. "There you go. There it goes..." -The way I see it, the person in poverty or living a bad life is finally giving up and losing their faith in God because they prayed their entire life but they were never answered; they never got a chance to live a better, more rewarding life. "Well, I wish that I was as good as you caring and trusting. And I wish that my condition was new but I'm old and rusting." -Now they're looking at someone, possibly younger, who has full faith and trust in God, caring about their religion and following it precisely. They wish they could restore their faith in God and be 'new' but they can't because of everything they've gone through in life - they're getting older and their faith has rusted. "So we just hurry up only to wait, add to the list of all the places we hate. And I pretend like I got something to say, but I've got nothing." -I think this part is about trying to live your life with the expectations that you're either going to Heaven or Hell. You try to live a perfect life but in the end you still don't know where you're going to end up - you hurried up (lived an ideal life) only to wait (not know where exactly you stand in God's eyes). "Now I know that you stole. Yeah, you stole from the cradles they were rocked in. You took the first words that they spoke Yeah, you stole. Yeah, you stole." -This could be directed toward the person's parents, guardians, religious advisors - they're angry because they feel like they aren't giving children a chance to choose whether or not to follow a religion, it's just forced down their throats because they're so young and impressionable. "So if I'm a liar and you're a thief, at least we both know where the other one sleeps, so let's end this tonight." -Since the person's angry they're speaking out against religion and whoever forced it upon them. The enforcers would call this person a liar for denouncing their faith because they believe in it and think everyone else should. In turn, the person would call them a thief for figuratively stealing their choice to follow a religion. I could be way off, but hey, that's what this site's here for. |

| Bayside – They're NOT Horses, They're Unicorns Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
i forgot to add something. i looked up quotes from "the neverending story" since someone had thought that's where the title came from, and found this: Bastian's Father: I got a call from your math teacher yesterday. She says that you were drawing horses in your math book. Bastian: Unicorns. They were unicorns. so that could be where it's from. [: |

| Bayside – They're NOT Horses, They're Unicorns Lyrics | 17 years ago |

"i was just a lost soul who needed a home/i was filling a void with you" reminds me of the part in devotion and desire ("and I was just so happy to be out of my shell again/i don't think that i really cared for who or what") in the sense that if it's about a relationship, he didn't really care much about the girl; he just was tired of feeling lonely. i think the rest of the song just builds off of that idea. i envision that he kept her around for too long, and finally started to see her "true colors." "i've been that way for years and years/a slave to broken hearts and sex appeal" -- maybe the girl used him and treated him badly (the broken hearts) but there was something about her (her sex appeal) that he couldn't leave. the bridge and chorus sound to me like he's out for revenge. the bridge being how he has changed since he got rid of her, and the chorus being where he's out for revenge for all the things she did to him. "that one day you'd break and i'd get see/how all the choices you made could drive you insane" -- the choices she's made being all the times she's hurt him, and now his revenge is going to come back to her and eventually drive her insane. |

| Bayside – Masterpiece Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
definitely some mistakes in the lyrics but it's for sure one of my favorite songs by bayside. the title seems somewhat sarcastic to me, like saying to the person it's about, "look at you, you and your life turned out to be such a masterpiece" even though the song is being interpreted as a song about alcohol abuse or something of the sort. "painting pictures in red and blue / a portrait bruise just like you" -- i always thought of the red and blue thing as a description for the bruising in the next line, since red and blue make purple when you mix them together and some bruises are purple. could be way off, but who knows. i really just see this song as telling someone to grow up and stop living in the past. whatever happened there should've been left there, not dwelled on for as long as it was. could also be about a person who keeps running away from his problems ("and now you're walking away / you're not eighteen anymore") and uses alcohol as their way to cope and ignore them. |

| A Day to Remember – 1958 Lyrics | 17 years ago |

the boondock saints is the movie the quote at the beginning is from. but i, too, think this song is about a coward/backstabber. a recurring theme in a lot of their songs, but they do it well. [: |

| Tay Zonday – Chocolate Rain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I definitely agree with the whole racial discrimination meaning. I have a mash-up of Chocolate Rain and "Black Cotton" by Tupac, which only supports that meaning. It's a shame more people can't take this song seriously, it has a wonderful meaning behind it, even if you don't interpret as a song about racism. | |
| MC Lars – Download This Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think he's basically telling major record labels to stop being so naive and stop overcharging for music when people can just download it all for free. If they keep doing that then eventually nobody's going to buy albums and DVDs anymore, and that's what he's telling them. Then he goes into telling other artists and bands that you don't need to be signed by said labels to make a name for yourself - he does it by touring with just a laptop, and many others have done it as well, and they're both playing shows that people actually come to. | |
| Say Anything – Shiksa (Girlfriend) (feat. Caithlin De Marrais) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I think the song's about Max falling for a girl who isn't Jewish and everyone she knows doesn't approve of him: "And even if your friends don’t understand No matter what i’ll always be your man And even if you go, you know you’ll leave me feeling grand." But he's trying to explain to her that even though she's not Jewish he still wants to be with her because she turned everything bad in his life good. Except with a lot of sexual references. (: |

| Every Time I Die – Kill the Music Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i kind of get the impression it's about groupies or cheating as well going off these lines: "Stutter step to the beat of a disparaged lover" -disparaged basically means to belittle and depreciate, and if he's just going to use this girl for sex then i'd imagine he wouldn't respect her. "Never minded the faithless courage of shame or the bravery of oblivion, I'm on her mind and I'm never coming back" -he's saying that he doesn't care that he's sleeping with her. the last line makes me think that the girl won't stop at anything until she sleeps with him. "If two timing is what it takes then we both know one take is all we need" -two timing being cheating. one take being just one time they mess around. "There's no difference between being holy and alone, That's why I'm eagerly fleeing the scene" -by now he's realized that he let him being alone take advantage of the situation and that he's sinned. he wants to forget about it and not do it again. "Baby return the favor and leave somebody you love" -his girlfriend or someone along those lines found out what he'd done and left him, and now he's bitter toward the girl he messed around with and is telling her to leave her boyfriend. "God forbid we indulge when at sea" -God forbid he gets lonely while out on tour and sleeps with someone. "Nobody knows the trouble I've been Or the exacting improvement of sin I'm handing myself over I'm turning myself in War has no glory like a woman ignored" -now he's 'turning over a new leaf' if you will and is ignorning all of the groupies or other girls he has the opportunity to sleep with because of all the trouble he's gone through with the "improvement of sin"; otherwise the adultery. and hypothetically speaking, if this song was the song that every time i die sent out to underoath, it would make sense to go by the idea of it being about groupies/cheating, since underoath are christians and adultery is a sin. that's just what i get out of this song. |

| Secondhand Serenade – Your Call Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this was originally a sounds like life song. i'm pretty sure he was in that band with ronnie day, but i can't swear to that. but their version of the song is amazing; if you can find any of their music i'd suggest listening to it. :] | |
| Senses Fail – Sick Or Sane (Fifty For A Twenty) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
this part: "and the white coats just don't get it, i'm a genius with a headache." to me, means something along the lines of the doctors don't get that there's really nothing wrong with him, yet they keep trying to figure out what's wrong. by the time the chorus rolls around, he keeps asking himself if he's sick or sane, then finally buys into what the doctors (otherwise "white coats") have been telling him and starts to believe he's really sick. |

| The Used – Hospital Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I honestly think thecrowing83 has the most logical explanation. I don't think Bert or the rest of The Used would waste an ENTIRE album dissing My Chemical Romance and/or Gerard Way. If you read what thecrowing83 had to say, it all makes sense. The scenario of it being a reccuring dream of going to the hospital and dying on the way there, everything fits. The idea of the narrator being seperate from the character fits as well. --- My interpretation: "This feeling never leaves you alone You pull the trigger on your own You're hiding in your safe place Hiding with your eyes shut tightly all the way to the hospital" This shows how much he dreads that ride to the hospital, and since it's recurring ("this feeling never leaves you alone"), he's dreading it so badly because he knows he's going to die. To avoid dying on the way there, he "pulls the trigger on his own." "Now will you ever rest your head You end up feeling mostly dead Pretending you're the last one Hiding with your eyes shut tightly all the way to the hospital" The narrator is basically describing the character to him, explaining body language and what-not. "You end up feeling mostly dead", again, ties in with the recurring dream of dying on the way there. "You're quiet on the car ride home, You're waiting for your head to explode You're hiding in your safe place Hiding with your eyes shut tightly all the way to the hospital" He's quiet on the ride home because he's waiting for the dream to start all over again ("you're waiting for your head to explode"). He's hiding in his safe place to avoid it happening all over, but can't, and ends up right back on his way to the hospital. "Will you look them in the face Could you look me in the face Three cheers you fooled them all Come on now, Hip Hip Hooray" This part kind of threw me off a little bit. The most I can do with it is he's fooling the doctors, dying on the way there, possibly coming back to life?, then ending up right back there, alternating between living and dying. I'm probably completely off on that though. "It never used to hurt before It isn't funny anymore Feeling so alone now, Funny how you wish some way that you'll die at the hospital" He's talking about how it used to be all fun and games before it kept happening, over and over, and now won't stop. Now he feels completely alone, and wishes he'd die in the hospital instead of on the way there so it would finally be over. "Before I cross my heart and hope to die at all Take off my mask and leave the lies to the liars Before I close my eyes I'm gonna give it up Take off my mask and leave the lies to the liars" The narrator, probably a second Bert like thecrowing83 said, is now referring to himself. In a really ironic way, you could think of it now being him dying on the way to the hospital. Just another thought. |

| Chiodos – All Nereids Beware Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i kind of agree with Seewa - i think it's less about the protagonist ruining a relationship, or looking back on it, but more about the girl burdening him. "all nereids beware" can maybe be saying to beware of the girl, since the nereids are always friendly, and she's apparently not for what she's putting him through. the whole, "take these misunderstandings" part shows the burden she's putting on him. like, she can't let go of whatever happened between them, and he's almost begging her to. "it's hard enough to live life as it is" without her shit. "if the wind were down, i could drive the boat with my sighs" this part can also represent the burden. the wind representing the troubles he's having with the girl, and him driving the boat being him moving on. basically if she'd leave him alone he'd be able to move on. i don't know - just my thoughts. |

| Chiodos – Who's Sandie Jenkins Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i agree with everyone who said it's about a relationship ending badly, and the violence he's talking about being metaphorical. to me, the line "our demise awoke the same time that i did" seems like their relationship ended when he realized it wasn't going to work anymore. basically he ended up when he realized he couldn't be with the girl, therefore waking up from any dreams he had of them being together. |
