| One Direction – Story Of My Life Lyrics | 11 years ago |
| I think this might be a stretch. Isn't much simplier to believe that he's committing suicide? He was an obsessive lover, who was overly attached until she couldn't be with him anymore, broke up with him, and then writes a suicide note that's the "story of his life" that they hope will be on his tombstone. | |

Everyone can have their own interpretation, but I think the most obvious one hasn't been mentioned here at all. This is about an obsessive lover of a girl who commits suicide when they break up. He tells the story of how she broke up with him, and then says that words were going to be written on his stone, persumably a grave stone (as well as this being "the story of his life"). I feel like he's writing his suicide note on the walls, and wanting to say that he had no choice but to kill himself. Here's the lyrics, line by line: "Written in these walls are the stories that I can't explain I leave my heart open but it stays right here empty for days She told me in the morning She don't feel the same about us in her bones It seems to me that when I die These words will be written on my stone" First two paragraphs about the break-up, and how he feels his whole life was defined by his love for her. "And I'll be gone, gone tonight The ground beneath my feet is open wide The way that I've been holdin' on too tight With nothing in between" He's killing himself tonight, either by hanging, or jumping off a building. "The story of my life, I take her home I drive all night to keep her warm and time Is frozen (the story of, the story of) The story of my life, I give her hope I spend her love until she's broke, inside The story of my life (the story of, the story of)" Again signs of obsession: Who drives all night for that? Sounds like she was in the next state or something, and it was snowing there and she mentions something about how cold it is, and instead of being reasonable, like asking her to get a blanket, or turn the heat up, he drives all night to keep her warm? This implies he's getting there around the break of dawn, and by that time, it's warming up already. "Written on these walls are The colors that I can't change Leave my heart open But it stays right here in it's cage" Unreciprocated love. He probably says he loves her but she doesn't say it back. "I know that in the morning now I see ascending light upon a hill Although I am broken, my heart is untamed, still" Sounds like more suicidal talk to me. He doesn't mind killing himself because he knows that he's killing himself for her. "And I'll be gone, gone tonight The fire beneath my feet is burning bright The way that I've been holdin' on so tight With nothing in between" He's going to hell for suicide, but he doesn't care. The story of my life, I'll take her home I drive all night to keep her warm and time Is frozen (the story of, the story of) The story of my life, I give her hope I spend her love until she's broke, inside The story of my life (the story of, the story of) "And I've been waiting for this time to come around But baby running after you is like chasing the clouds" He knows there's nothing he can do to get her to love him. "The story of my life I take her home I drive all night To keep her warm and time Is frozen The story of my life I give her hope (give her hope) I spend her love until she's broke (until she's broke inside) The story of my life (the story of, the story of) The story of my life The story of my life (the story of, the story of) The story of my life" So the end and summary of this incredibly selfish song is he hopes that after he dies, people will think that the story of his life is that he loved this girl obsessively and that she didn't love him back, so he had no choice but to end it all. Luckily these guys have really pretty voices and music is well-written, so I still love hearing it. |

| The Fray – You Found Me Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I kind of take a different track in interpreting the song. I think that only part of the song is supposedly sung by the questioner at the beginning, and other parts are actually sung by God, or by both God and the questioner. There are many parts that could be interpreted both ways. For example, the song opens with "I found God", and the chorus is "You found me". Is this the questioner, or God, that was found in the chorus? Could it be both? So I think it can be taken both ways. For the person's point of view, he found God, and was mad at him for taking things away from him and having brought him to his knees. On the other hand, God is saying, why did you have to wait to find me? You were lost and insecure, with the girl in an accident, maybe, at First and Amistad, surrounded by witnesses and paramedics, and that's when you decided to call me? Why'd you have to wait this long? So I agree with the people who say that there isn't only one person talking here. |

Of course, every song means something different to everyone. For me, I see it this way: There are two people in the song. One is the singer, who is telling a story. The other is the girl that left him for Boston. The singer is repeating to himself the last words that the person who left had said to him, as the reason for leaving. She said, "I think I'll go to Boston, to get out of California, because you don't know me, and you don't wear my chains." She left because she couldn't take it anymore, and thought that he couldn't understand her. I don't totally buy the idea that she left just to start over, because it just doesn't ring true to me that a Californian is tired of the weather. No matter how nice Boston is in summer, it certainly can't compare with Californian weather. In addition, she says "I think I'll get a lover and fly them out to Spain" as if that were something easy. Rather, it sounds to me as if she's trying to make him jealous. Anyway, that's how I see it. She's leaving, because she said I don't know her, or wear her chains. |
