I think the verses are supposed to be from the point of view of Lucifer, although it is not in the album's booklet.
The only song on Paradise Lost that is confirmed to be about Paradise Lost is, yep, you guessed it - the title track. The rest are based on various themes from the epic story, such as lust (Eve of Seduction), betrayal (Seven), love (The Sacrifice), and war (The Walls of Babylon). |

This has to be the most brutal song Symphony X has ever recorded (with King of Terrors possibly in 2nd place).
Who else loves the diminished part in the middle with the awesome bass and piano groove? |

I've never understood why the band skips the opening minute or so when they play it live. The bass solo in the beginning is just beautiful.
Also, the lyrics show a rare occurrence where Symphony X does not write about mythology. |

A lot of Symphony X's music is inspired by Poe's work. Half of Michael Romeo's solo album (The Dark Chapter) seems to based on Poe, as well. |

I like Rukkus' interpretation of the song.
This song always reminds me of the game Resident Evil 0. Not quite sure why. |

This song is simply amazing. It is obviously a prequel to the song The Divine Wings of Tragedy, as the ending is a reprise of one of this epic's themes.
An interesting note, however: the acoustic ending passage in this song is in Ebm, whereas in Divine Wings it is in Dm... just a half-step difference. Bizarre. |

The song is indeed about space travel, which is an unusual topic for a Symphony X song. In fact, Michael Romeo stated that the reason the song was cut from the normal version of The Odyssey is because it didn't flow with the musical or lyrical content of the rest of the album.
If you head to Symphony X's official website, you can download this song in mp3 format.
Awesome solo section, too. The bass playing is amazing! |
