this song it sounds kind of Marxist. the "toolbox" and not being able to do the "right thing " while you are awake refers to false class consciousness. Its difficult to know what to do while you are submerged in the false direction that the society is pushing. The toolbox is the ideas and ability to initiate change. the seeds that have been laid- are like the social reproduction, each generation after another, being ground into the same place. also the projector and turntables- they used play the censored films in abandoned warehouses. i might be over analysing this though |

some of it is about how the romani have forever been persecuted and were, in some countries, captured, lobotimized or sterilized even up until the 1970s. but they still have a freedom in knowing who they are, whereas the 'free' lip synching girls/ westerners are under a false illusion |

sally is a bit shallow, she sells arms to renegades for 'magic pepples' so she can satisfy her own wants. shes not selfish though, just the raising of western culture. by satisfying her immediate material wants she is ultimately leading herself and her nation to downfall. everybody counts sort of thing |

i think the excerpt at the beginning of the film is from the russian film "Bilinsky" (1951) the particular lines chosen seem to illustrate the famous "letter to gogol" written by Vissarion Belinsky which were banned from public circulation and made illegal. i dunno thogh, censorship? |
