Porcupine Tree – Time Flies Lyrics 16 years ago
Cant believe i missed PT here in brissy 2 weeks back, unfortunately was just too busy.

elcapitan has some very good points, and some that i believe are not relevant. ie, the pink floyd allusion, im pretty sure the singer doesnt go that deep.

the part that chimes the bells of my soul more than any other are pretty much the chorus with 'after a while, time flies',

I have been studying for 4 years nearly, and it is so true. I feel maybe i might have not been with people that i cherish at points... but ive had fun nevertheless, and the singer is definitely right, when he says, that time flies.

a very strongly, yet simply, worded song, and im sure one that many people can relate to.

Puscifer – Potions Lyrics 16 years ago
I agree with scorpic, in the fact that the lyrics are reminiscent of NIN.

The beat is uniform, and I have listened to it a few times now and it hasnt worn thin on me yet.

The bakers dozen bit sounds more puscifer like than NIN... just out of interest.

As for the song's meaning, I can't deduce much, other than it is to do with some sort of relationship (a lot of help I am, eh?)

Maybe someone else with more analytical and deductive skill than myself (wouldn't be hard to find) can offer something more...?

Dredg – Cartoon Showroom Lyrics 16 years ago
The explanation Yust has given is quite extensive, and one that seems to fit.

It's interesting in the second line he uses the word 'sin' next to 'smell' and 'smile', maybe implying that all humans are fallible?

And yes, I'll agree with Yust again, 'consuming knowledge... through times before' 'so keeping moving onwards' all seem to relate to continual self improvement.

Aside from all of that scrutiny, I like this song a lot. Still not sure whether I think the album rivals that of Catch Without Arms or El Cielo, but it's growing on my nevertheless.

personally i was thinking both parents. seems like the song is trying to establish life lessons, or passing on some sort of knowledge to someone. cant quite put my finger on it.

great song though.

Tool – Aenema Lyrics 16 years ago
Interesting. Very nice few last comments, very well explained and in-depth.

I just watched a movie last night, you may know of it, 'An Inconvenient Truth', with Al Gore as the primary protagonist (if you could call him that).

For those of you who do not know, or have not seen this: do yourself a favour and watch it. I believe it's one of those movies which increase your awareness of the world around you.

How does this relate? Well, I won't say that this is what Maynard was thinking when he wrote the song, but I do see slight similarities. Global Warming will, eventually, raise the ocean-line by up to around 40feet, drastically changing our world, and leaving many places flooded and uninhabitable.

If I correctly recall, I think California was one of those places which would get flooded.

I can't verify all of these facts, because my research only goes as far as watching the movie, and gleaning from this what I could. I will be researching it over the course of this year, though.

I am very surprised the comments on this song only start from this year... incredible. There must have been a site re-start or something of the like?

Again I say TremorControl and lesbonees are on the right track, in my opinion (but I guess opinions mean little these days?)

The Butterfly Effect – Final Conversation Lyrics 17 years ago
One of my favourite songs off of the album - so good!!

As for the meaning, I'm thinking something about a relationship, classic song theme though it may be.

Can't wait to see them on October 16th in Brissy!!!

Tool – Pushit (Live) Lyrics 17 years ago
well, can't sayer whether it's better, but it certainly is awesome. no denying.

thought of an interpretation. maybe him choking the infant before him is killing his old naive self and ascending. also with the allusions to the 'gap'.

COG – Bitter Pills Lyrics 17 years ago
hmmm quite an enigmatic song.

very very good song though, i love cog a lot, and am pissed i missed them live twice already!!! they sold out too fast....

anyways, im getting a gyst that it's about following the 'maps' of what has been set out by society.

his 'open door' is the deeper understanding that he has come to have, like a realisation.

dont quite know what he means by bitter pill.... maybe that truth, \and how bitter it is.

Nine Inch Nails – Discipline Lyrics 17 years ago
Does it have to be about any one thing in particular?

I can see how it alludes to drugs, and sex, eating... whatever!

Addiction, whether to drugs, sex (pretty much a drug release in the brain as well, right?) it all requires 'discipline' to stop yourself.

When it says 'left a mark' it can mean past tense, as in in his past.

Even suggesting he is addicted to food is laughable... totally irrelevant.

COG – Doors (Now And Then My Life Feels Like It's Going Nowhere) Lyrics 17 years ago
I agree, awesome song. I agree with Kreegah's short interpretation. Trying to make head or tail of the lyrics, don't quite know what he means by the 'door'.

the lyrics on this site are wrong.

thought it was 'crawl away crawl away, see me now, crawl with me'.

and in first stanza thought maybe it was 'for all of us' not just 'for us'.

Other than that... FANTASTIC SONG!!!

only been listeining to dredg for few months now, but very good band.

if you like them try and aussy band called 'butterfly effect', very good, similar sounding.

Tool – H. Lyrics 18 years ago
i do agree with the fact that lyrics are supposed to be poetic, and hence tell a story of someones life. deep lyrics do open up your eyes to various things, such as what's really going on in the world, and how we are so ignorant to so much as care.

All That Remains – Become The Catalyst Lyrics 18 years ago
fuck this song is sick along with most of the others on this CD. not the deepest lyrics (unlike other bands i like, like tool and NIN) but amps me up somthing chronic.

well, i'd say it's more like a determination to 'not fail or fall', in whatever your passion takes you to. it's avtiation for me, has given me the impetus (or catalyst) to drive towards being a pilot.

Tool – H. Lyrics 18 years ago
yeah, this is the song that touched me the most, wish they would play it live, and was ultimately gutted when they didn't play eulogy live at BDO, i was screaming out for dear god.

very emotional song, and the way maynard sings it is fantastic.

Sneaky Sound System – Pictures Lyrics 18 years ago
Of course the lyrics are pathetic zoomzoom, its a dance song, and as such, has the underlying roots of it's lyrics embedded in the fact that the protagonist is on some kind of drug (ecstacy, acid possibly) and is therefore seeing 'pictures'.

My favourite bands are tool and NIN, though i have recently gotten into the dance genre through going out clubbing.

'keep me on', keep me high, can be noted as part of the theme. then the whole 'taking pictures' is part of the metro 'look at me, i've come here all dressed up for this night out, lets take pictures'. Even dance songs can be deep when you look at them (though not usually :) )

Nine Inch Nails – God Given Lyrics 18 years ago
i thought more of the term 'god given' related to born traits of a person (as references in the song to the 'colour of their skin'), this can also extend to other things like height, appearance, and your religion, and how you are judged in society, as whether you are 'one of the chosen ones', as is a defining theme in starfuckers as well, stars being 'chosen' for their perfection, etc.

Sneaky Sound System – UFO Lyrics 18 years ago
it's about being on ecstacy you morons. but the undertone about being lonely fits.

'very far from home' - on another planet, in effect, drugged out to excess.

no one believes she is hallucinating, even visualising fictitious objects in her own imagination,

bright lights etc etc refer to being out in some club.

inthe song she also appears to talk to someone else on drugs ( and you say. i dont know...etc).
