| Little Feat – Don't Bogart That Joint Lyrics

Sorry to inform you but you are both wrong. Lowell George is rolling over in his grave as we speak. I'm sorry SpacePedestrian but you are wayyyyyy off in left field, actually you're not even in the bleachers, you're somewhere down the street. Hugles is in the ballpark but he forgot his glove lol. Ok for those of you who are marijuana illiterate ::coughprevioustwoposterscough:: allow me to break this one down:
"Joint" aka "Jazz Cigarette" aka "J"(noun) = A Marijuana Cigarette
"Bogart" or "the act of Bogarting"(verb) = while this is a direct reference to Humphrey Bogart it is more a reference to the mans actions than the man himself. Bogart was known to smoke cigars all the way down to the end. In this song "Bogart" is a verb not a known refering to smoking a "Joint" down to the end without passing it to the next person in the circle.
Ro-o-o-o-o-o-oll Another One = roll another "Joint" to smoke
Hit = a drag from a "joint"
I hope this has clarified some things for the people who may not be hip to "stoner lingo". Be on the lookout for more stuff like this in Little Feat songs as Lowell George incorporated quite a bit of it in his songs. If you truly believe that this song is about Humphrey Bogart looking for attention in a bar then you obviously don't need any marijuana you are clearly high enough. As for me i'm gonna go RO-O-O-O-O-O-O-O-OLLLLL ANOTHER ONE JUST LIKE THE OTHER ONE and listen to Waiting For Columbus and since i'm alone at the moment you better believe i'm gonna "Bogart" this "Joint" my friends. F-E-A-T.

Granted this song would sound 1,000,000 times better with Morrison's vocals. You can't discredit Krieger's song writing abilities however, having written many of the songs morrison sung when he was fronting the band. True Morrison was the heart and soul of The Doors but with out the musical back bone of Krieger, Manzarek and Densmore he would have gotten nowhere. All i'm saying is without them we probably wouldn't even know who Jim Morrison was. True he was writing poetry and the like but i don't think he ever would have gotten of the ground without a band behind him writing music to his maddness. Don't get me wrong Morrison is one of the greatest and I love The Doors but don't discredit the musicians let us remember that Morrison never played and instrument. Either way i applaud the others for soldiering on after Morrison's death even if it was very short lived (two albums: Other Voices and Full Circle). |

Ok here's the thing.....many people tend to draw connections between LoTR and Zeppelin songs. Some people dispute it and say that it had to do with Norse or Celtic mythology. The truth is connections can be drawn with both. It is quite obvious that Tolkien himself drew inspiration from these mythologies while writing LoTR so therefore sayin that it is about LoTR is not all that far off. Being a die-hard LoTR fan myself i can see these connections and it is fine to draw them. People should be open minded about this as i'm sure Plant & Page were while writing these amazing songs. They can mean many different things to many different people it is as simple as that. The connections are there throughout.....Norse......Celtic.....and in that respect LoTR. When it comes down to it it is all up to our interpretation...the listener and thank God for that. AND THANK GOD FOR LED ZEPPELIN!!! |
