Vampire Weekend – Oxford Comma Lyrics 17 years ago
Actually, No. That was a very poor example- seeing as it actually makes sense. Because you said, "another third," the reader knows that there is an additional sum of money being donated.

Agnostic Soldier seems quite confused. If you are an, "agnostic soldier" you would not hail Satan.

Streetlight Manifesto – A Better Place, A Better Time Lyrics 18 years ago
I see this as there definitely being a break-up that took place.
Of course, the overall meaning and power of the song amounts to much more than that.
but it seems everyone is over looking the line

"i'm turning into someone that i never thought i'd have to be again"

This implies she was at one time just as depressed. Being that this man came into her life and saved her entirely.
they seperate, she once again, falls into a depression. He knows he has the ability to help, or did at one point help.
And wants to support her even if they're not together.
He want's her well, but is realizing he can't make up her mind for her. Therefore- he stops trying to sway her opinion, and simply lets her know he's there for her either way.
He still cares, even if theres not much he can do.

I'm sure reading this someone's bound to wonder "well, if they're both upset over the "break-up" than why don't they just get back together?"
Trust maybe? the girl already feels theres no one out there for her, so the chances she would believe anyone still cared are slim to none.

The line "don't forget your family
regardless of what you choose to do" gets me biggg time.
You need to understnad that the people around you are affected by your every move, and being that "Annie" (who I think can stand for anyone in the situation) feels she has no one behind her; she can't possibly "remember" her family in the sense that "oh wow, they might be upset over this" for- she feels absolutely no one is there for her.

This song has a meaning you cannot possibly understand completely unless you've been there before. It's so much more significant after you've expierenced it first hand- from every perspective.

thebluthcompany is so incredibly right.
you have to wonder if that's what the band had hoped for.

Rise Against – To Them These Streets Belong Lyrics 18 years ago
Billy Spleen got it. but along with that- I think respect for what others have created ties in. "To them these streets belong" They accomplished something great, take notice weather you support it or not. And furthermore- don't claim it as your doing. Follow in their footsteps, but don't ever take yourself as a pioneer.

We the Kings – Skyway Avenue Lyrics 18 years ago
although the song may be making a refrence to a former band member, I think cucci got the alternate interpretation. and quietthings just added. No one else favours the relationship, but they would leave it all just to be happy toghether.

Chiodos – Baby, You Wouldn't Last A Minute On The Creek Lyrics 18 years ago
When I first heard this song, I instantly thought of a "relationship", as did near everyone else. I don't, however, see two people actually breaking up. As the words were going through my head, I saw two individuals who were just friends. Good friends, for a good amount of time. Who both had feelings for eachother- but something was pulling them apart. Like one moving, perhaps? Whatever the situation- they decided it would be easiest to either stay friends (not take the relationship any further), or stop being friends (being that one of them would no longer be around). Going against what they had planned, they "hook up", with feelings of guilt surrounding. This could have been because although they were good friends, they were never "together" so either of them could have another guy/girl in mind. Possibly a recent breakup. That's where the lie comes in. They don't want anyone to know. They don't want to believe it them selves. Their relationship would have worked if they had followed through earlier. Either way, the feelings racing through them become unbearable, and the simplest thing to do is "walk away".
