Born Ruffians – Red, Yellow, & Blue Lyrics 17 years ago
The first time i listened to the album, i didnt think much of this as an opener. But now i love it, the lyrics are so simple but fantastic. it makes you wonder how noone thought of it before, like the lyrical version of the toaster.

Tokyo Police Club – In a Cave Lyrics 17 years ago
the lyrics, in particular, the opening verse:

I threw darts at a spinning globe
Swapping out passport photos
I walk west to the setting sun
Every single step, I grow
Another second young

really reminds me of the book Join Me about Danny Wallace.

I doubt very much its about that though.

Lipps, Inc. – Funkytown Lyrics 17 years ago
I think the songs about a woman.
Who wants to go to funkytown.
And she's looking for someone to take her.

MGMT – Time to Pretend Lyrics 18 years ago
I agree with MyChaosDream. To me, it sounds more like theyre mocking all of the cliche rockstar lifestylr than actually wanting to be part of it. Especially the line, "The models will have children, we'll get a divorce,
we'll find some more models."

The Wombats – Let's Dance To Joy Division Lyrics 18 years ago
i'm a massive joy division fan and i think its disgusting that people are calling this a slur against joy division. any form of celebration of joy division's music should be encouraged, you cant just choose whos allowed to like joy division and who isn't.

it's not songs like this that put me off liking joy division, its fans that think people should "take their own lives" for liking a song with joy division in the name. it does annoy me a bit that people are dancing to this instead of actually dancing to joy division, but if one wombats fan hears this song and decides to listen to some joy division and falls in love with joy division, then the songs been worth while cos it's introduced someone to a great band and a new JD fan has been born.

we weren't all lucky enough to be born in 1960, so we could boast about experiencing joy division first hand. i didnt get into them til 24 hour party people, which im sure is shocking for all the hardcore fans, but i was only 13 at the time, the band ended 10 years before i was born.

The Spinto Band – Mountains Lyrics 18 years ago
"Now I'm reaping benefits"

I always used to think that said "Now I'm raping Ben Affleck." which i found funny, rather disapointed it doesnt say that now :(

Not that i've got anything against him, i just found it really random.

Great song nevertheless though, cant see the strokes resemblance myself though.

Straylight Run – Existentialism on Prom Night Lyrics 18 years ago
"The whole concept of existentialism is that God is dead"

No its not, a belief in existentialism suggests that you dont believe in a God, but religious beliefs and existentialist beliefs arent mutually exclusive. it's possible a God designed a world that was existentialist, as much as it is that he designed a world where everything is destined.

The Wombats – Let's Dance To Joy Division Lyrics 18 years ago
i love this song and i think its about just having fun despite the fact that everythings not going too well, and the title itself is the metaphor for this since theyre dancing to a band whos lyrics focus a lot on the darker side of the life.

Hope of the States – January Lyrics 18 years ago
I want to be a kid again
I want to wash my eyes out
I want to mean evry thing i say
And never be scared again
I refuse to be ashamed
However many doomed attempts it takes
To forget my history
All my mistakes and every thing I waste

i honestly believe that is the best opening verse to a song ever.

Secret Machines – Alone, Jealous and Stoned Lyrics 18 years ago
i read an interview with the singer (brandon curtis?), where he said that the song was about returning home from tour, expecting just to be part of family and friends etc again, the same old usual stuff, but returning to find everyones grown and changed and he felt like an outside, and spent a lot of time in his old room.

thats obviously paraphrased, but it was along those lines.

Arcade Fire – Windowsill Lyrics 18 years ago
i know the lyrics are all metaphorical and about america, but i love these lyrics at face value, plainly because i was in a situation where my father left my family with lots of debt last year, and i don't live in America. so they relate so much to me on a direct level, i do understand the deeper meaning though.

Joy Division – Disorder Lyrics 18 years ago
the guy who said his voice sounds boring is entitled to his opinion, but in my opinion is so mistaken. his vocals through the song sound so intense, and he might have the most technically brilliant voice ever, but in my opinion, hes got one of the most beautiful. So few singers have this amount of passion in their voice nowadays, the only two i can think of off the top of my head are Conor Oberst and Sam Herlihy.

This is one of my favourite songs by Joy Division, i love the intro and the opening line. Im considering gettting it tatooed onto my wrist, bit cliche, but i just think its such a great line, especially when he sings it.
