I really love this song, I think it captures the frustration of being in a relationship (or having been in a relationship) with a partner whose actions and behaviour are destructive to it, and who never learns from the mistakes they've made. The person's trying desperately to salvage what they have left in the relationship and asking the partner to do the same (hence the 'hold on, hold on, hold on) because they don't want things to fall apart worse than they already have. Just a lyric edit: In the second verse, the first 'chains' is meant to be 'trains' (could have sworn I'd written it right when I typed it up originally)! |

After listening to the album version, I realised that the first verse is actually: Did you miss it enough To make up for both of us? Did you take it apart Just to show me how it worked? |

The lyrics are nearly right. This is what we came up with on the forum: Where’d our sense of adventure go? We sit at home With dinner on a tray The world is outside Do you remember how it used to be? At seventeen, we’ve never been the same Forgotten our lines She said We could do anything We can do anything Oh, open your eyes The world is outside your door Oh, don’t tell me a story if you don’t have one The last Monday in January is apparently The worst day of the year Maybe they’re right But I don’t even know what day it is I’m tired of this, wish we were kids again With time on our side She said We could do anything We can do anything Oh, open your eyes The world is outside your door Oh, you’re kidding yourself, ’cause everything else is old Oh, open your eyes The world is outside your door Oh, don’t tell me a story if you don’t have one Oh, oh, (etc) Oh, open your eyes The world is outside your door Oh, you’re kidding yourself, ’cause everything else is old Oh, you’re taking your time, the world is outside your door Oh, don’t tell me a story if you don’t have one This song really helps when you're stuck indoors, it basically tells you to go outside and do something, because it's so much more interesting than staying in! |
