Cradle of Filth – Libertina Grimm Lyrics 18 years ago
The Cinderella references come from the 'Grimm' part of the title, referring to the Brothers Grimm who were famous for their fairytales...I think...

Nine Inch Nails – Zero-Sum Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is incredibly haunting. My take on it is the insignificance of human life at times. On the grand scale of things, alot of the themes on the CD seem almost insignificant compared to the biblical ending Zero Sum provides; I.E The modern age horror of 'Survivalism' and the the likes of 'Capital G'. Essentially, this song is the realisation of this, and the narrator realises there is no way to justify it. This isn't even a prayer for hope, just wishful thinking. The only thing providing the narrator with any hope is his partner/child. There is nothing left to do but hope things will be okay, and the realisation our fate lies in the hands of a higher being makes us all insignificant, just binary codes in God/The Presence's world.

Confused meaning, but none the less a fantastic song and a brilliant conclusion to the Year Zero album. I'm sorta hoping Trent doesn't continue the concept with the next album, just because this, for me, is the perfect conclusion.

Cradle of Filth – Nymphetamine Fix Lyrics 18 years ago
The meaning of this song has already been established, but I'm not so sure the meaning of the title 'Nymphetamine' has been. Dani himself describes it as 'an addiction to classical beauty' but I don't think that applies itself well to this song. In this interpretation, I think 'Nymphetamine' refers to the woman. Essentially, she is a nymphomaniac, a woman addicted to sex, and the man is addicted to her like a drug, i.e amphetamine. Therefore, she is his drug, nymphetamine. This also explains the use of 'sunsetter', as the woman was the one who drove the man to suicide, setting the sun on his life. 'None better' suggests he could find no alternative, no other woman could better his addiction to her.

So, Nymphetamine IS a drug, although this particular drug is a woman. And, much like heroin, the man has travelled all the roads of a conventional drug addict but couldn't get 'clean', and therefore had to kill himself, similar to some drug addicts.

Children of Bodom – Silent Night, Bodom Night Lyrics 18 years ago
Great song and considering Alexi sometimes gets criticism for his lyrics, great lyrics. It's great how COB have written music that is actually quite upbeat and then put horribly grim lyrics to it.

You're right about the Bodom murders, but it's also about murder in general and how, despite our outrage, there's no way we can stop a person killing another person again. Hence the use of the 'Reaper' as a metaphor for murder, an indestructable being, we can't kill the Reaper just like we cannot stop people committing murder.

'When the calm is setting in
we'll watch it swiftly disappear
Too many years of silence
soon he's bound to reappear'
