I kept thinking it was about a Kraken, but a giant squid makes quite a bit more sense, especially with the line "I got pretty nice arms, but I hate my beak " I totally concur with the love of his insane, odd topics that turn into songs that are so many levels of wonderful. |

It goes through three parts, I think. Remembering when he was happy and feeling all right, and when he looks back on it, he feels like he was never really happy(I traced the cord back to the wall, no wonder it was never plugged in at all). Then he's depressed, thinking about suicide or just leaving, remembering things that went wrong and maybe writing out a note... waiting for everything that's going wrong to just be over and done with. Then he's looking towards the future, thinking that tomorrow's another day and things will get better, and he's starting to feel better. It's more positive and sure(tomorrow holds such better days). |

This is my favorite song of theirs, hands down. I went to see them live a few weeks ago and kept saying "Oh, they WILL play it." It made my night... As people are saying, it's about the girl Annie who's depressed and sees no point in being alive anymore, and he's spending every day just hoping she'll be alive, checking the obituaries(Looking through the paper today, looking for a specific page, don't want to find her full name followed by dates). "Annie says she wouldn't mind if they never find a cure to all her problems(problems) problems, Annie says, as long as she has someone near, to make it clear she doesn't need to solve them(solve them) solve, them, Annie says..." That piece of the chorus is her saying that if she could just find somebody to tell her that it's okay to be how she is and they'll support her, she can try going on with living. It's a little sad, since that's what the singer is saying to her, and it seems like she's too wrapped up in her problems, self-loathing, and lamenting over having no one, that she doesn't notice that he's there for her and always will be. |
