i know that bowie love to pay homage to the velvet underground and the title always makes me think of the line from all tomorrow's parties " And what costume shall the poor girl wear
To all tomorrow's parties
For Thursday's child is Sunday's clown
For whom none will go mourning".
im just throwing this out there to see if anyone else had any direction with it |

i kinda doubt the childhood innocence theme. sure the song is upbeat and playful but the lyrics dont match the tune. i get the vibe that the speaker is living a boring life and just wants to get the fuck out. i believe that the uplifting tune represents the force driving him to get out there and find himself or whatever it is hes looking for |

i get the idea that the speaker is the one who died. the rose petal bed makes me think of him lying in a coffin with flowers all over it. when he says theres helicopters overhead its because hes lying in the coffin looking up at the sky and the only thing he sees when he looks down is his own shoes with the sun shining on them. the rest of the song confuses me tho. i have no interpretation other than this girl who he loved just wasn't there for him.his own funeral represents something terrible that has happened to him and she didnt even go to it. she had something more important and it showed him that she doesnt care about the relationship like he does |
