it's obviously about the astrological sign. "dear someone listening in the shadows / i only talk to you sometimes" etc reminds me of my mother who died last year. i might be projecting that, but it could be about a person she knows who died, or i could see it being god or something.
ps: most astrology books say "Aquarians" for the plural of "Aquarius." it sounds much softer.

whenever i hear this, i think maybe there's a black and white picture of his parents, or someone's parents, outside in the summer, eating what looks like black ice cream, and their son is in the background driving his go-kart. and people used to write the dates on photos a lot more than they do now.. i don't know, i always think maybe he just wrote a song about some picture, and made it mean something different. seems like something darnielle might do. |

it's about a guy who wants to be with someone, but she won't give him a straight answer whether or not she wants to. it's driving him so crazy that if she said no, he wouldn't even mind as much, because he just NEEDS an answer. at least then, he could go on and deal with it and that would be the end of it... but she won't tell him if she really wants to. |

i thought it was a reference to cocaine as well. like, mocking her for being a drug addict on top of all this other shit. i don't think it really had anything to do with their relationship, which is why it's only one line in the song. |

obviously, the rocket is a phallic symbol, and "on the one" means he's about to come... as in, when a rocket takes off, they count down 3, 2, 1..... heh. |
