It's fairly easy to see this is about the people that are sitting on the first row at church putting on a show for all to see within the congregation. When they leave the building, they aren't the "holy roller" that they portray themselves as inside the church. |

To me, it's about not wanting to go down the same path as everyone else. Everyone he will graduate high school with will drop off like flies in the sea. They will become irrelevant, like everyone else in this so-called life.
The second verse is basically saying that he doesn't want to go out and get a normal job, like everyone else because he will be viewed as being dumb, accomplishing nothing and wasting his time.
The last verse is him fearing that he could die in a car wreck, like anyone else, and he would regret not having accomplished anything in his life.
A normal life isn't what he wants. He wants to go do something and be remembered instead of rotting away where he is currently. |

Regardless of what Billy Corgan has said, James Iha wrote the music to this song. They both arranged it. Of course, Billy changed his mind a few years later and tries to claim most of the credit for it. |

Brett didn't write the lyrics or the music to this song. In fact, I don't think he wrote anything on the first album. |

This is from the KFAD recordings because that isn't Jim Martin on guitars. It's Trey Spruance. Jim Martin's style is completely different. This definitely wasn't from the Angel Dust recordings because all of that was done with a Mesa Mark III amp and this song sounds nothing like that. |
