My point of view; "If I could tear you from the ceiling And guarantee source divine Rid you of possessions fleeting Remain your funny valentine" If something is on the ceiling it is out of reach or difficult to capture. It sounds like he's trying to coax the person out of his reach to come to him. If he could just tear them down and hold them close to him he promises them hope and love, a source divine. Something maybe the other person doesn't have. A solid thing that will stay with this person and not go away. Their funny valentine. "Don’t go and leave me And please don’t drive me blind Don’t go and leave me And please drive me blind" He doesn't want the person to leave them (obviously) and leave them feeling rejected, lost in the dark. "If I could tear you from the ceiling I know the best have tried I'd filll your every breath with meaning And find the place we both could hide" The best have tried to get this person but must have failed. He continues to persuade by promising to fill them with life through their kisses. The other person doesn't have to hide and isolate themselves from teh world alone, he'll join them and keep them safe from their fears. "Don’t go and leave me And please don’t drive me blind Don’t go and leave me And please drive me blind You don’t believe me But you do this every time Please don’t drive me blind Please don’t drive me blind" The person doesn't know but they hurt him all the time when they reject him and his efforts. "I know you're broken I know you're broken I know you're broken" This person maybe used to be very free and lively but something happened to make them "break" and not be themselves. Something maybe made this person hide and keep away from everyone. "If I could tear you from the ceiling I’d freeze us both in time And find a brand new way of seeing Your eyes forever glued to mine." If the person would come down he'd protect them and preserve the moment forever. That one moment of peace and trust where the person finally comes down to meet him, he'd never let fade. He'd show the person a "new way of seeing", to get them to see beauty again by trusting him and letting him love them. "Don’t go and leave me And please don’t drive me blind Don’t go and leave me And please drive me blind Please don’t drive me blind Please don’t drive me blind Please don’t drive me blind Please don’t drive me blind I know we're broken I know we're broken I know we're broken" Maybe in the end he also failed to get them down from the ceiling. Because they continued to reject him he's also broken along with them mentally or spiritually. In the end he was probaly driven blind. To me I don't think this is a song about a break up or drugs (why do all songs have to come to that with you guys?). I think it's more about maybe someone being depressed or maybe someone got out of a bad relationship and refuses to trust anyone else. Who knows, but that's my impression. |

This has NOTHING at all to do with the true meaning behind the song but the moment I heard this song it instantly reminded me of my character Nevious. e grew up in an abused home but its very different than your ideas. Instead of the dad being the fault it was his mom. His mom was insane and manipulative and tortured her family. Back during World War 2 in Germany Nevious grew up in a rich house but his mother never let anyone outside, only a handful of servents. When ever Nevious tried to get out she'd send him to get whipped and his weak willed father couldn't protect him because of the mother who always manipulated his mind. The father tried so hard to protect his son but one day he couldn't stand how weak he was. The wife demanded him to punish the son for another try at escape and instead the father went outside and shot himself. Accidentaly his son was there to see it. Nevious' father was the only source of light to him, always telling him fairytales. When he died time stopped for Nevious and he never grew out of the age of nine. One day the house he grew up in was set aflame and nevious managed to escape, going into hiding. He lived homeless until he was nineteen painting portraits of people, his unstable mind thinking they were all alive. He was so disillusioned all he could do was be happy and think that everything around him was alive with him; rain, reflections, drawings. All this to avoid being lonely. Then he was captured by nazis and brought to a camp just for being at the wrong place at the wrong time. Nevious managed to survive the camps long enough for the "enemy" soilders to rescue the men and women from the camps. Throughout his life Nevious suffered but due to his child-like state he is still innocent and naive and his unstable mind still conducts images of his father being with him and alive among other things. At the same time Nevious is very wise and sees things no one else can. He still has nightmares about his dad's death. Wow, that was useless! Still, Nevious story is what links the song to him for me. It makes more sense if you know him. |

| Again, I got a different story from the lyrics. I don't get a Jesus thing from here, or another "HOMIGAWD BOY LOVES GIRL!" drama. Reading the lrycis I sort of get the feel that the person talking in the lyrics was a follower of Lucifer or something. A demon or someone who believed in his lies and thought he'd help him until one day something happens where he falls and is dieing and Lucifer simply turns his back to him instead of saving him like he believed he would. Could explain all the begging and the talking of liars. xD But I always get very weird storys from lyrics. After all, I don't give a damn about the people singing the songs or their life style; I just try to get a image from the songs they sing. And that's my twisted idea of it. | |

Apprantly I have a very screwed up mind. Listening to this song and reading the lyrics, instead of getting what most people got (or probably what the true meaning was) such as how cold the world is or a war or what not my mind ended up possibly way off target. Did anyone else get a villain vibe from this? Somehow the lyrics, mood, and song itself made me think of some sort of comic book villain VS hero story here. Almost as if the villain created some sort of mass homicide and mocking the hero. Kind of like a Joker VS Batman sort of ordeal. I know. Weird plot to absorb from this. By the way, the band rocks. xD |

| I'm not sure but when I first read the lyrics I got the idea of someone with a split personality. Maybe the "dark" side is talking in their head? May not make sense to any of you, but I can sort of see that. Especially if the "light" side is a child who thinks the voice is a imaginary friend of sorts. o_o; Just the story that played in my head. | |
