| The Raconteurs – These Stones Will Shout Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Absolutely gorgeous song! Much more emotional depth than most Raconteurs songs. Clearly, its about two people so obviously right for each other who can't seem to get it together, and the frustration that ensues. | |
| Beck – Movie Theme Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Beck has always battled the common expectation brought upon him by "Loser." In reality, "funky, groovy, ironic" Beck is only one part of his repertoire. "Wistful, lost, melodic and futilistic" Beck is equally as interesting and enveloping if not more so. "Movie Theme" is a perfect example. Beck is a man who sees the world in a different light as everyone else. It's almost as if he feels he's got it all figured out, and doesn't like the final result. So he sings of despair and getting through, fooling yourself into smiling through life. This is the most prevalant theme on "The Information," the constant battle between being fed up with society, and trying your best to blend in. | |
| Bob Dylan – All Along the Watchtower Lyrics | 18 years ago |

Ponder this, I've always felt this song had strong connections to J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-Earth, whether unintentionally or intentionally. The imagery is striking while taken in context. There must be some kind of way out of here, said the Joker to the Thief - sounds alot like Gollum and Bilbo in the cave in "The Hobbit," Bilbo was recruited as a thief to steal back the dwarves gold, and Gollum told him he'd help him find the way out if he answered his riddles. The joker and the thief. The lines "This is not our fate" and "The hour's getting late" are often used by Tolkien in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy. Here's my favorite: The last stanza, to me, depicts the end of "Return Of The King" All along the watchtower -Anybody know how to say watchtower in Elvish? It's Minas Tirith...the city of men where... Princes kept their view - Faramir stayed and recovered while the men of the west went to war. While all the women came and went, barefoot servants too All the men of Minas Tirith went to war, leaving the women and the hobbit Merry at home along with Faramir. Btw, hobbits are ALWAYS barefoot. Ouside in the cold distance A wildcat did growl Two riders were approaching And the wind began to howl seems like Faramir and Eowyn looking to the east waiting for the sign that men won the battle. Again, probably not intentional, but it makes you think. |
