| Jason Mraz – Love For A Child Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| actually, the term "work the floor" refers to manipulation, in this case how the lack of communication and trust between his parents allowed him to do pretty much whatever he wanted. when someone "works the floor" it means they find a way to get what they want, or at least what they think they want. | |
| Augustana – Heart Shaped Gun Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| i dont think it is about rape. back when castles were used as fortresses, if the walls were breached it meant that the enemy typically had a significant upper hand. i think he is her "enemy". it seems like he knows that he is in control of the relationship and that she is somewhat unhappy but refuses to leave, for some reason. the relationship is definitely not going extremely smooth. | |

wow, hate to resurrect a dead thread, but it is most definitely sheol(e). sheol, as defined by wikipedia, is an area whose name is nearly interchangeable with hades (but not exactly the same). sheol, in the hebrew bible aka old testament, means an area where all people, both good and evil, go when they die. it is similar to purgatory, i.e. one can go to heaven after making good out of ones life or simply waiting for their judgment day. but if you cant see how the metaphor here makes the most sense, all i gotta say is DAMN. in the song he says: "and burning like a beacon, guiding our ship around this hellish sheol" to me this means that the person he is singing of (i think the grandpa makes sense, but not sure) is still influencing him, guiding him around this area that, no matter how good he is, he cannot escape until he awakes. truly i think "awakes" is meant as being brought out of sheol, or being redeemed. as many biblical references as brand new has on the new cd, i find it hard to think that something as serious as death would not have a biblical reference. ah well, thats my 2 cents. |

| Brand New – Handcuffs Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i have a question about "i'd drown all the crying babies, if i knew that their mothers wouldn't cry". do you think that he says that part about the mothers because he is (metaphorically) tired of hearing people cry and having to listen to mothers cry wouldn't solve his problem? or do you think he says it because it would make him sad to see someone else sad because of what he did? its very trivial to me and i cant decide what he means exactly. i only want helpful opinions, not "ur retarded, it obviously means this...." kinda shit. thanx | |
| Brand New – Cleanser Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| this songs name is "nobody moves". and for the dude above me, shut up! i dont know if it makes any sense to you, but the fidelity on some of the songs on this album were meant to be somewhat low, like sowing season, limousine, and even degausser. you find a little bit of raw emotion in songs that dont have to be computer enhanced to sound good. | |
| Brand New – Okay I Believe You, but My Tommy Gun Don't Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i think people put way to much stock in the whole TBS story. not saying it is not directed at adam personally, but i think jesse is mocking what adam, TBS and so many other "emo" bands stand for: generic pop-punk with little imagination as far as lyrics and music go. the lyrics in this song are so cleverly sarcastic, i love it. I'm heaven sent, don't you dare forget I am all you've ever wanted, what all the other boys all promised Sorry I told I just needed you to know -this verse is obviously about the narcissistic attitudes of typical, woe is me, emo bands. the stuff you find in their songs, such as the perpetual broken hearts of so many artists today, is comical and is totally exploited in this song. I think in decimals and dollars I am the cause to all your problems Shelter from cold We are never alone Coordinate brain and mouth Then ask me what it's like to have myself so figured out I wish I knew -"decimals and dollars" is a shot at artists whose primary focus is not creating music that will transcend time, but music that will be marketed to attention-starved adolescents that just got their allowance and need someone to tell them about emotions and slit wrists, which has become a ridiculous "fad" in our society. I hope this songs starts a craze, the kind of song that ignites the airways The kind of song that makes people glad to be where they are with who ever they're there with This is war Every line is about who I don't write about anymore Hope you come down with something they can't diagnose, don't have the cure for Holding on to your grudge Oh it's so hard to have someone to love Keeping quiet is hard 'Cause you can't keep a secret if it never was a secret to start At least pretend you didn't wanna get caught -reminiscent of so many songs about failed relationships where the victims just cant get over the fact that someone has hurt their feelings. so sarcastic, so great. We're consentratin' on fallin' apart We were contenders, now throwin' the fight I just wanna believe, I just wanna believe, I just wanna believe in us -the bands that he is singing about are always so concentrated on the negative things - at least in their music - that ultimately it gets old. "we were contenders, now throwing the fight" i think could be a direct shot at TBS b/c their first album, Tell All Your Friends, had very catchy, clever lyrics with decent musicianship, which put them in a position to be a big name in music. but since john nolan, their principle lyricist, left the band their originality has decreased significantly, hence knocking them out of a contender's spot. Oh we're so c-c-c-c-c-controversial We are entirely smooth We fit to the truth We are the best at what we do And these are the words you wish you wrote down This is the way you wish your voice sounds, handsome and smart Oh, my tongue's the only muscle on my body that works harder than my heart And it's all from watching TV and from speeding up my breathing Wouldn't stop if I could Oh it hurts to be this good You're holding on to your grudge Oh it hurts to always have to be honest with the one that you love Oh so let it go -again hitting on the narcissism factor. This is the craze only we can bestow This is the price you pay for loss of control This is the break in the ground This is the closest of calls This is the reason you're alone, this is the reason you fall! -not sure but this could be a sarcastic remark, as one of the targeted bands may say to the subject of their songs. or it could be sincere and directed at the bands themselves. |

| Brand New – Sowing Season (Yeah) Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| dude, xxjiiillmakeup, ur lyrics arent exactly right either. actually the parts u changed, from "he whispers like a bridge, its a river spanned" to "..., in a rivers span". and "turn it in to something u would miss if, somebody threw that brick and shattered all your plans" to "turn it in to something you've been missing,.....". i dont know about u but the part about the bridge signifies the fact that someone, not necessarily his father, helped him through a trial in his life. metaphorically, bridge=help, river=problem - the bridge allowed him to get over the river. the second is just common sense, "take all that you have and turn it in to something you would miss if somebody threw that brick that shattered all your plans". hes saying to have purpose in your life, in a way that if something devastating were to happen, you would miss and appreciate what you once had. the other correction u made is good tho. oh btw, quietgreyeyes is right about the john nolan and adam lazzara thing, but jesse and john are still great friends. they perform at each others shows, but as far as i know, adam is not good friends with either of them anymore. | |
| Relient K – Marilyn Manson Ate My Girlfriend Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| there always has to be the antagonists that cant leave well enough alone. this is a christian song by a christian band and when christians discuss their thoughts on it, the atheists, agnostics, satanists, etc. have to come out of the freakin woodwork to try to make their point that marilyn manson is not as everyone thinks, even tho thats how he portrays himself to make money. but this song is strictly about how, in one instance only, music changed someone that the band was close to. nowhere in the song did it say if u listen to manson ur going to hell. so stop bashing relient k's creativity and write ur own song. u could call it "relient k stole my makeup" our whatever it is that makes manson so white. and on behalf of all christians, im sorry for the bible thumpers that insist anyone other than other bible thumpers are going to hell. call them hypocrites or whatever u want, but we are not all that bad. dont base a religious choice on one encounter with a bad example. peace to all. | |
