Sarah McLachlan – Sweet Surrender Lyrics 18 years ago
Wow... i doubt she's talking about s&m, rexbannah. lol. I believe like everyone else mostly is saying she is speaking of finding someone who completely accepts her for who she is, nicks and scratches and all, and makes her feel like she can give up all her feelings to this person without being judged. This does not necessarily have to be a lover- it can be a close friend too. If anyone has seen the movie Home Room with Busy Phillips and Erika Christensen, the girls at the end of the movie embrace crying while this song plays. It is very effective because the one girl had not wept in years or allowed herself to feel much for anything, and she has surrendered to the other girl and allowed her to take her in and make her surrender to her emotions.

Linda Perry – Fill Me Up Lyrics 18 years ago
this is pretty clear... the singer got drunk and passed out at a party, and is now asking the next day what she did all the time that she was drunk. she has had a blackout of her memory of the time and wants to know if it was really as good as she remembers it being or if she just embarrassed herself.

Linda Perry – Knock Me Out Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this is about someone in the singer's life that is very concerned about her and her self-destructiveness. "you knocked me out, bit my lip, held me down and kept me sober"... the singer resents the person's interference, but at the same time she does love her and is afraid to be left alone to her own destructiveness.

on the other hand, i can see another way of interpreting this too. maybe she is in an abusive relationship but loves the person too much to leave. (I can take the fight, but don't take it away)

Fiona Apple – Get Gone Lyrics 18 years ago
LOL... god I"m relieved now... I had no idea everyone else in the world loved "fuckin' go" so much. I never cuss and I get real glee out of saying that in this one song... it's so perfect. she builds up to it with her alternating between annoyance, sadness, grief... then she just can't take it anymore and explodes with fucking go! i love it.

Marry Me Jane – Faithless Lyrics 18 years ago
NO ONE likes Marry me Jane?! Anyway...

I got the feeling that this is about incest, between a brother and sister. Not just the "am I still your creepy sister" which obviously implied it to me, but also the girl "mumbling her resistance", his "scent too familiar", things implying this person is related to her or very closely associated with her.

Even if not about incest, this is obviously about a young girl having sex with someone who coerces her to do so, and she regrets it, feeling "faceless, nameless, shameless"... etc. Although later she feels guilty and tortured by her knowledge of what she's done... she bears emotional scars.

Marry Me Jane – Athena Lyrics 18 years ago
This seems like it could have several meanings to me... first off, the name Athena. She is a Greek goddess of wisdom and war, isnt' she? Could this be significant to this Athena's character?

And then the crimson river she is following... blood? Are they committing suicide together- is this a lesbian relationship? I get the feeling that it is somehow- "nothing really makes sense, never had it on my wish list, it caught me by surprise, all we needed was a river to follow and fall on"... anyone else think this might be a lesbian relationship between singer and Athena? adn "hiding in the open, standing by my side"... a friend she never thought of as more until one day?

Then the sea of wine... is this Athena a habitual alcoholic, is she perhaps drinking herself to death? This I think is unlikely... lol, I have thoroughly confused myself.

Linda Perry – Life In A Bottle Lyrics 18 years ago
First off i can't belive NO ONE loves Linda Perry... anyway... She's drinking a lot and knows she is addicted, knows her drinking is excessive, but she doesn't want to help herself. She loves it even as she sees it is destroying her because she is unwilling to change her behavior.
