I agree with what TeylorUndead about the intro: "the first meaning i got from this song was that he was simply mocking the 'emo' scene. Saying how cutting just became a trend and how someone would make up an excuse,just so they could cut and have something wrong with their life,just to fit into that scene. and that the intro to the song was his interpretation of what these kids were thinking as they cut. and how he thought it was all bullshit." 100% agree. as being a teen and in high school I see exactly what he is talking about throughout the song. The song literally talks about people being fake, and how people just go with what everyone else does, like scene kids. "I made sure that I look how I wanted to look The people around me, the people surround me". Influenced by other people made him what he is now, not him. |

i agree with you guys whole- heartedly. up till i found out about his mom, i thought the song was about as follows: (lol) i think that on top of the world is about someone being away from someone, or longing for that someone, and has found them in his/her dreams. Life sucks for him/her, but everytime that person falls asleep, they feel that everything is alright and feels that being with that person in their dreams allows him/her to be whatever he/she wants to be... it is a really good song to me, i think the song is narrated by someone who is dead, maybe the girl's boyfriend. but she ends up in a car crash, maybe soon after his death, and as she is dying, hes telling her its ok, her death just makes life more meaningful, or something like that.... |
