I absolutely love this song. La Dispute has really helped me get through my parents divorce with this CD. When he yells out the vows it gives me goosebumps. I think the meaning is pretty simple. Just read the lyrics. haha |

I think that most of these lyrics are based off the idea expressed in Ephesians 5:8-14 8For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Live as children of light 9(for the fruit of the light consists in all goodness, righteousness and truth) 10and find out what pleases the Lord. 11Have nothing to do with the fruitless deeds of darkness, but rather expose them. 12For it is shameful even to mention what the disobedient do in secret. 13But everything exposed by the light becomes visible, 14for it is light that makes everything visible. This is why it is said: "Wake up, O sleeper, rise from the dead, and Christ will shine on you." |

Here is my "stretched-out" theory, but first read these lines again... "and the last of our cash laid down to fate (at 17 to 1)" "a fifth to the commonwealth and the rest to the track" What i did was go to the fifth book in the BIble which is Deuteronomy, Then I went to Chapter 17 verse 1 and this is what i read: "Do not sacrifice to the Lord your God an ox or a sheep that has any defect or flaw in it, for that would be detestable to him." The verse isn't about faith or anything, but I do find it strange how it talks about animals with flaws are detestable to God while the entire second verse of the song is talking about how they lost all of their money because the horse that was picked to win was found limping in the back of the group by the end of the race. I don't know if it was a coincidence or just Aaron being clever. |

| Emery – As Your Voice Fades Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I agree with trjn71 and t_p_akbound in ways. and people are just posting their ideas on this shin dig. Why does every non religous person on here have to shoot the Christain ideas down? I haven't seen any Christians say "DUH this obviously isnt about a girl friend" theyre keeping it open. I personally feel this song is about Christ... Reason being is he constantly keeps sayin you even when hes talkin to God. " I beg you, God, bring me peace" so there whether you think logically or religously. if you also think gramattically you can see that the "you" hes talkin to is God. It also says in the song "While words (your life)" obviously "the words" in this fragment is talkin about the Bible. and the new testament is all about Jesus' life. And like someone said earlier Jesus is the only person who can make the Chains of Death fall. I think all the parts where its talkin about physical interactions with the person are metaphorical and arent supposed to be taken literally. Im sure in the guy's actual life he has never held jesus's face. but ive heard people say that in theyre lifetime that they've been so spiritually strong that it felt like u could touch the face of God... i think thats something close to it. and when u feel distant from God its almost like ure lost without him and you cant "hear" him anymore. Maybe thats y the song is called As Your Voice Fades because maybe hes becoming more distant from God b/c of a certain thing in his life most likely a death. You could also say that the "Until i see u again" is a statement that could only be said to someone you knew and physically saw. But if you think of Jesus as the Alpha and the Omega if u saw Him in the end u saw Him in the beginning as well. and Alfungo i think the reason y he screams Why Did You Die is because its a rhetorical question. and the DOnt leave me please is just a state of mourning... maybe hes sorry for what hes done and is asking God for forgiveness. Just like if i did something wrong and i told my Mom please dont hate me. Its just a way of sayin im sorry because really i know my Mom will always love me no matter what. All in all i think this song was disguised. What i mean by that is that this song if you analyze ever piece it comes out to be about Jesus and sayin that i cant wait until i finally meet you. But i can also see it as other people find it asking God for him to help him and the person he lost ease their pain until their in heaven together. I think this song wasnt meant to have just ONE specific meaning but TWO. So that Christian could find it inspiring and so that Secular people could find some hope out of it too. I could be very wrong about all of what i just said but i just wanted to lay some things out on the table so people could truly decide what they want to believe in this song. I mean my meaning are just like science: based only on theories. HAH! P.S sorry if offended you by pressing the Shift key to much |

Hey, no offense but the people on this comment board stating that it is pretty much insane to even THINK that songs BY a CHRISTIAN band are God related, WHY? I just dont understand why you're in such denial. Emery IS a Christian band. No they're not a praise band but they don't have to be. I'm personally in a Christian Rock band myself and no not all of our songs are praising straight to God but ALL of them are teaching the word of God whether they're about how to get through sexual temptation/ depression/ anger/ or just staying away from sin and asking for forgiveness so its not hard to believe Emery doesn't do the same. And after reading almost all of Emery's beautiful lyrics I've came to a realization that most of their songs are about getting through sexual temptation (this one isnt the case though). Which is a thing all Christians have a very hard time to get through. By writing those type of songs is a way of serving God because they are spreading around that premarrital (sp?) sex is bad. AND I've never seen a bad message come from an Emery song so honestly it wouldn't be hard for 20 or more people to pass off "some retardedly-christian-themed meaning/moral" to a Christian band's song. We look at this site to find deeper menings to a song but as soon as someone mentions God in a meaning it has to be wrong. C'mon people lets think outside the box and put our personal beliefs aside. Its almost like if i looked up a song by Slayer and said i dont think this song has anything to deal with sex drugs or violence (bad analogy i know). No one on this site has tried to push their beliefs down anyones throats, we are all just expressing our ideas on this thing. And everyone has their right to believe in what they want. Just don't get on a Christian band's song and totally deny the fact that it is Christian. alright im done. All in all this song is awesome... God bless :) |
