Hot Chip – Shining Escalade Lyrics 17 years ago
i think this song is about wanting to fit into the society's latest image of "cool" and wanting to be accepted, but not being able to change the ways he thinks and feels.

"I want a shining s.u.v. people see me differently" says that he wants people to think he's really trendy and awesome seeing his flashy cars and such, but then saying "we build the fences, now we can't escape" is talking about how he built up the reputation and got all the fancy possessions needed to live that way, and he ended up trapping himself and being unhappy, just wanting to be free from all of the pressure of that life. It's implying that as much as he wants to fit that stereotype he'd rather just live quietly with his lover away from all the chaos that comes along with that lifestyle.

"hide with me under the covers" also hints that he wasn't fit to live the way he thought was so glamorous because he got so overwhelmed that he just wanted to be safe with his love and hide from the rest of the world.

I guess to put it simply the song is about the celebrity lifestyle being glamorized and desired, and in the end it turns out that it's not all it's said to be, and it gets to be hard to deal with. Basically you just want to escape the things you thought you wanted for yourself and live a normal life because inside you never really gave up the ideals you had before you got to be that way. You start to understand that it doesn't matter what car you drive or what everybody thinks of you if you aren't happy.

It's about just wanting to be accepted, but then seeing what that acceptance is really like and wanting out.

Three Days Grace – Wake Up Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song is about him being insensitive and having problems being aware of what he's doing to hurt this other person girlfriend. Then, when that person he's damaging stands up to him, he refuses to see what he's doing wrong and can't seem to change how he is so he gives up and watches her walk off after he pushed her away.

Maroon 5 – Secret Lyrics 17 years ago
Well, clearly the song is about sex. As the rest of the cd is, but they make it work. I mean, its not sleezy or crude. This song is such an aphrodisiac, and it's such a perfect sex song. And although the song is about sex, but theres also something else behind it, obviously... hence the title 'secret'.

"Jealous orchard.
The sky is falling off the ceiling
while I'm tucking fibs into a cookie jar."

I think maybe the "jealous orchard" could be their fanbase, and the people that admire them. And "the sky is falling off the ceiling" part is how they feel really smothered and crowded sometimes. Or how when they're onstage everything seems surreal. "While i'm tucking fibs into a cookie jar" could maybe mean that they're telling little lies in a familar and comforting form [everyone loves cookies :)] so that they dont hurt anyone they wouldnt want to.

actually, all of that seems like its wrong, now.
but hey, i tried.

Fall Out Boy – Calm Before the Storm Lyrics 18 years ago
"that says there's another fool like me.
There's one born every minute.
There's one born every minute."

i think it's saying that when you screw up rly bad and you feel like you're the biggest idiot on the planet to realize that ppl do stupid things all the time and that somewhere someone just made themselves out to be a bigger idiot than you did.

Fall Out Boy – Hand of God Lyrics 18 years ago
"it's not gossip if it's the truth
i'm sick of always writing songs
for you to slit your wrists to"

i think Pete's saying that he wants people to take him and the band seriously and not to label them as another "emo" band because they want their lyrics to mean something more. They want ppl to rly think about their lyrics and not just listen to their songs because they get you depressed enough to do something stupid.

"is this truth or is he writing fiction?"
it's talking about the lyrics, and kind of teasing us in a way, taunting the fact that we dont, and maybe wont ever know, if their lyrics are drawn from personal experiences or if it's things that they write about from what they hear or see.

Vanessa Carlton – White Houses Lyrics 18 years ago
i'm pretty sure this song isnt actually about her, just something she came up with. but anyway...

"my first time,
hard to explain,
rush of blood,
oh, and a little bit of pain"

I'm pretty sure that is does NOT refer directley to her first time having sex.
Her lyrics arent that litteral in her other songs, and im pretty sure this one isnt different.
anyway, i think it might refer to the first time being in love, and falling into it too fast.
"rush of blood" could be like, blood rushing too her head from things moving too fast, like when you get lightheaded...
"and a little bit of pain" could be getting heartbroken. hurt emotionally.

"on a cloudy day
its more common than you think
he's my first mistake"

I think she's saying that people get heartbroken more often than you'd think and that it's not an uncommon thing for people to go through. and that the girl the songs about realized that she "fell in love" too fast and it was a mistake because she ended up getting hurt in the end because she got her hopes up too high, or something along those lines.

i dont think that it's all about losing her virginity, thought it may have something to do with it. just not as litteraly as people are looking at it.
