"Vh is definitely not a Christian band. They've even said they aren't on multiple occasions. That being said, their songs are frequently vague enough that multiple interpretations are possible, and some of their songs can be seen as religious." Someone once swore blind to me that VH were Christian, having only heard the chorus of Everything You Want XD |

"Anyone beat this song, on expert, and get five stars on it in guitar hero encore?" Yes, actually :P This song is really really good, although I do slightly prefer the cover in GH80s to this one, I have to say. |

| The Presidents of the United States of America – Lump Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Alright, my view has already been sort of said. I think it's about a party girl who goes to parties for the drink, the drugs, the sex (and after all, what else is there at parties?) - before accidentally falling for someone. It slows her life right down, and the guy she liked is no longer into her because she's not the same person she was when they met. She finds she can't get back into her old ways of partying, and her life is changed forever because of one one-night stand that tipped over into something more. | |
| The Sleeping – Don't Hold Back Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Does it strike anyone that this song could be about D/S sexual submission? Particularly the first verse... he's telling whoever he's with not to worry about hurting him and to just go with it. I dunno, just a thought, maybe. | |
| Vertical Horizon – One of You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Or is it about a guy losing his virginity to someone he really cares about? Could be. That's what I've started to think while listening to it. | |
| Vertical Horizon – Sunshine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Isn't it: There's something better in this need Than getting it all and: I hold this window wide enough To heat the whole world |
|
| Vertical Horizon – You're A God Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I've always seen this as a rather ironic, sarcastic take on the cliche break-up line - "you're amazing and wonderful, etc, but it's just not working." | |
| Vertical Horizon – Everything You Want Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I have to disagree with the perspective that this song's about God; it just doesn't seem to fit. Call me boring, but isn't it just a song about a guy who's in love with a female friend and is confused as to why she doesn't love him back? I'm probably reading too much into it in this case, but he does seem to suggest there's something wrong with her between bouts of egotistical self-pity; he tells her she has unrealistically high expectations of a man, that she's still hung up on her ex-boyfriend(s) and that she had her chance with him, and blew it. Don't get me wrong; I really like this song, but it has to be one of the most narcissistic they've done. That said, Matt (lead singer) doesn't necessarily agree with the song's "character" - in other words, it's not about anyone in particular. Meh, like that made sense... |

| Vertical Horizon – Forever Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| No, I don't think he's the one dying. It's got to be his partner. It's all very sad :( He's just telling her that he'll never forget her and never stop loving her, even though she's gone... forever. | |
| Vertical Horizon – One of You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Okay... After thinking long and hard - NPI - I think this song is about sex. Not just sexual attraction, the actual act. The whole thing is - metaphorically - thoughts running through this guy's head as he looks down on his girlfriend as they're having sex. That's my interpretation, anyway. | |
| (+44) – When Your Heart Stops Beating Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Isn't it someone telling his girlfriend/whatever that he'll be there for her no matter what - even when she's on her deathbed? | |
| Fountains of Wayne – Mexican Wine Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"ok first of all major typo its definetly not "The wheels of promotion were set into motion" it is clearly "The wheels of COMMOTION were set into motion" have any of you even listened to this song?" That's a little pedantic - the lyrics aren't that clear in this song to begin with, and it's not like your post was completely typo-free. Anyway, yeah, this song is inspirational if a little too full of forced rhymes. To the person who said "I'll be yours if you'll be mine" is a bog-standard song lyric - agreed :) But it has at least SOME relevance... of some kind... maybe. I love this song. It's about optimism, and staying on top of life whatever it throws at you. It's good. Mhm. Oh yeah. |

| They Might Be Giants – Dr Worm Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
World War 2? Deep-seated worm phobias? I don't think so. Sure, TMBG are known for conveying a serious and sometimes sad message under the guise of upbeat music, but you have to stop somewhere. I think this song is about someone with an incredible lack of self-esteem, who believes they can never achieve anything (such as learning to play the drums well) and believes people whenever they put them down ("can handle criticism", because he agrees with it). Hence the references to being a worm, but wanting to become a doctor. He's NOT "a real worm" but he might as well be. |

| They Might Be Giants – Ana Ng Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I'm probably wrong, but I think this song is more about the general idea that the Western world is largely ignorant of anyone living anywhere else. The name of the song, Ana Ng, is a very common name, but sounds like nonsense to the majority of listeners from places like the USA and UK. Linnell seems to be saying in the chorus that it's a shame people are so ignorant, because the world would be a better place if we weren't - "walked in the glow of each other's majestic presence". I'm not trying to flame or anything, hell, I'd include myself in the "ignorant" category. That's just my interpretation. |

I don't think your lyrics are too accurate. There're quite a few minor errors, but some more major ones are (corrected) "'Till we leave this endless night" and "To all that I hold dear". Sorry I'm such a pedant. Lol. |

| Vertical Horizon – We Are Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think this song is about the meaninglessness of life in general and the feeling "Why do anything? What's the point?" Nihilism, in essence. It's a bit of a bleak concept, but it's the only meaning I can really find in this song. | |
| Jonathan Coulton – Kenesaw Mountain Landis Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song is about the Black Sox Scandal, in which several baseball players in the Chicago White Sox - including "Shoeless" Joe Jackson - were convinced to intentionally lose the 1919 World Series for gambling purposes. Judge Kenesaw Mountain Landis, baseball's first commissioner, banned them from the sport in 1920. Correct me if I'm wrong. |

This is the song that made me Google Jonathan Coulton and turned me into a rabid fan. As you can probably tell... |

| Ocean Colour Scene – Better Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I'm not sure, but I think this song is about coping with the death of someone close to you. I'm probably wrong though. | |
| Ocean Colour Scene – Travellers Tune Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| OCS' lyrics are totally incomprehensible in my opinion, but that's no bad thing. I've never been too sure about this song, but I'd be willing to bet it's as Spinning Sun said - "a symbolic journey of looking for love". | |
| Matchbox Twenty – Unwell Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Yes, he seems to be lapsing into insanity, but slowly, and he can watch himself slip, and fall, and he is powerless to stop it. That's what it means to me. A lot of people have said this isn't this the case, but my opinion's as good as theirs =] | |
| Matchbox Twenty – Long Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This song could be about me... To me it just seems that he's turning into something, someone he doesn't want to be, someone who yells at his friends and family just because he can't vent anywhere else - "I'm sorry 'bout the attitude I need to give when I'm with you But no one else would take this shit from me" But he's watching himself turning into this permanently upset, stressed-out monster and wishing he could stop. That's what it means to me, although I'm probably wrong. |

| Matchbox Twenty – Busted Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Like everyone before me: it's a sexual song, definitely. But the meaning of the song is secondary, in my opinion, to the general sound and feel of the song. The guitar is perfect, and I love how it speeds up for the chorus. Incidentally, isn't it "I found solace in this place" not "I found silence in this place" before the first chorus? |
