| The Chemical Brothers – The Golden Path Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Firstly it's incredible. To me it's a song about the doubt, fears and difficulties in finding a direction in the journey of life. Where am I? Where am I going? Which track am I on and am I on the right track? Outside influences are pushing me where I do not want to be. Am I ever where I think I am? What is going to happen to me? Something is going to stop me and hurt me. There are powers bigger than me that can stop me. A man naturally wants to be going somewhere - because he knows he is mortal, he acts and he tries to go there and then doubts and fears take hold. I think the ending is a reminder to not worry too much about the grand scheme which can wear you down, just be warm and human and a good person. That is where to be. Do not get taken over by the daunting path of life and formostly love those near you that deserve it. |

| Babyshambles – Albion Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| (Reebok reference aside) it seems a timeless song of England, the writer could be from the 1950s, it has a gritty realism I would associate with a social realist of a bygone era.. | |

Yes I love this song, I love the video. I love the way the song seems long, you can really get into it and the string instruments bound on and on. To me on one level it's about hero worship and being near your father. Enjoying traditional beautiful moments of fun with Dad's. You know like when Dad made you sledge (our cloud machine) and you went out on the hills and used it with him. Those kind of outdoor adventures kids would traditionally specifically have with Dads. That you can look back on and love. Also I like the contrast between the individuality and creativity of what the father and son are doing and the faceless beureaucrats of society out to stop them. But do they in fact have good reason? |

p.p.s the lines "Questions of science, Science and progress" to me give a historical, maybe Victorian feel, in the days when these were talked about concepts, making this almost novel like. |

| p.s I also think maybe his attempts at analysing and science and his going round in cricles, might be something to do with why he is this difficult position in the first place! | |
| Coldplay – The Scientist Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Lovely stuff. For me about the complexity of a relationship, how he wants it to work, but knows how difficult it has become and he can't analyse it properly either, but it gives him a gnawing pain. He blames himself for whatever has gone wrong, but feels he has to try, as this thing is not going to go away for him. | |

| glad you agree Jenny (and twice too). In the spirit of the song maybe I should "Ask" you out? lol | |

i always liked this song. Great pace. Image is of school days, fumbling, hands, slightly depraved almost Victorian attitude to sex ("its dirty"), public school. An education in sex. |

| The Smiths – Still Ill Lyrics | 18 years ago |

"I decree" I love these words at the start. They reek of audacity and authority and say I am going to comment on this land (England is mine) and you better be listening. They say listen up to me. I AM an authority. Definitely a satire on politics and leadership and policy. But later on questions himself. But you better not disagree. "Does the body rule the mind or does the mind rule the body?" fantastic. |

I love this song. Meaning aside, I love the richness of the guitar, the punchiness of the song and Morrissey's delivery. I love the contrast in views between the people. It reminds me of shared mixed houses. Maybe students or young professionals. It seems they have both retreated to their bedrooms (very Morrissey) and dont want to go into "the room downstairs" again for a while and face the wider world. Definite angst and growing pains and hormones in this house! |

| The Smiths – I Won't Share You Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| One of my favourite Smiths songs, I love the dreaminess, the richness, Morrissey's vocals, the depth of sound it all and emotion. I get lost in this one. | |
| The Smiths – Death of a Disco Dancer Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| i love this song. It has moments of quiet and then thunder. The music is great. Morrissey's voice bites. | |

Im a huge fan of the Smiths and so many of their songs but to me this is the one song I would always pick as my best. Obviously it is a satire on borrowing ideas and material. To me I just love the basic event that is happening. It seems like a meeting of two young educated people walking and discussing art and life with passion. I like the contrast between the sun and the cemetery. The holding up and championing ghosts the of the past. Trying to understand. "passions just like mine they were born and then they lived and then they died seems so unfair and I want to cry" It feels timeless could be in any decade and a lovely historical aspect to it too. It feels very English. Definitely a gothic feel and quality to the poem. |

| The Smiths – Ask Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I often used to overlook this song, as overly bright and less dark than than the Smiths classic sound and songs. I saw the original video the other week and it suddenly stuck me how wonderful it is in richness of sound and lyrics. To me its about coming out (not just in a gay sense) and being who you want to be and not wasting time (not just in love) in your life. Enjoying the richness of life and taking a leap forward. We each have our "buck-toothed girls in Luxemburg" in our lives (our jobs, certain friends etc). I hope the "buck-toothed girl in Luxemburg" is ok. Anyone got her address I wanna ask her out. |

| The Smiths – Reel Around the Fountain Lyrics | 18 years ago |

well meaning aside I think it is a wonderful, beautifully constructed tune. It seems multi-layered and very melodic, luvly rhythmn to the song. There is obviously a lot of innuendo and entendre there open to interpretation. Its almost like an intelligent young persons sinister version of Carry On in places, camp, grappling and desire, like a camp but dark farce: "I dreamt about you last night and I fell out of bed twice" great line. One of my favourite Smiths songs. |

| The Smiths – A Rush and a Push and the Land Is Ours Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
HELLO I am the ghost of Troubled Joe hung by his pretty white neck some eighteen months ago I travelled to a mystical time zone but I missed my bed so I soon came home they said: "there's too much caffeine in your blood stream and a lack of real spice in your life" I said: "leave me alone because I'm alright, dad just surprised to still be on my own...." This is one of my favourite Smith songs, from the opening bars and the intro and start up to the end of the bit I quoted above I think is one of the best starts to a song ever. |

| The Flaming Lips – Do You Realize?? Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
It's a truly amazing song. It would fit so well in a film. Maybe in a fantasy film as part of an epic adventure. A character (a young wizard) on his way sailing across a beautiful sea and sunset on his way to face his foe (a dragon?) the next day, the song shows his fear, mortality, but also him gaining his strength and calm as he approaches the island of his foe. To me its the most truly universal and timeless song Ive ever heard. It could apply at the dawn of and end of time and the universe. Cosmic. Its about the timeless cycle and beauty of life, how it continues and we need to live as brightly as we can whilst we can. That life is both mortal and continuing. As individuals we die but life continues. And at least we have this knowledge. I think it could be played at a funeral to inspire people to celebrate someone's life. To inspire and move on. Yes I agree it can be quite overwhelming and also sad. But also inspiring. |
