i'm totally completely guessing but I think it's about this girl that he digs, but she's left him hurt and scared of love. he tries to be wary of her but inside he knows he'd have her back at all costs. maybe where he is only reminds him of her (I hate this old place) and he hates how he is now because of her (who I ended up since). she may not seem like much in the beginning, a sweet girl with a book of quotes and a pretty red dress but she knows exactly how to bring him down (sack full of stones) with her whiskey and antics. I don't know.

this is definitely in my top five favorite Ryan Adams songs. It reminds me of staying up at three in the morning, wide-eyed, and completely awake but it's incredibly silent and at any moment a crash could come. Well, that's what I think. Etherized is also right in that it's like, so you drink every night and one day it crashes on you but it's so beautiful. You had hopes and dreams and you were supposed to succeed (rise above) but you sink and digress into a beautiful abyss. I can't really explain it at all 'cause I love it so much. |

I think this song is like, sitting at a table with some friends at a bar, but you're all in a daze and don't really talk and just drink, and it keeps going and going and going sort of like a trap. Also like, a girl uses him (sort of) and gives him kisses but he totally digs it. |

Ryan Adams is my favorite artist and this song is a dream to me. It's like... would be my perfect relationship even if it isn't healthy, but this song is the most romantic one I've ever heard and god it's definitely one of my favorites. I'll never get tired of it. |
