Ok well i think the loss if innocence explanation was spot on. but to me, this song has a different meaning (i think it's wrong though, but i can't help applying it to this sutuation): i know this guy who is on drugs (coke specifically) and he thinks eveything is fine, he's all happy etc. and his mates all used to do it too, but they've moved on now, he hasn't. "ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES DANCING ON THE GRAVE OF WHAT HE THOUGHT WAS STILL ALIVE ON AND ON AND ON HE GOES DANCING IN MANSIONS MADE OF TWIGS AND CASTLES MADE OF SAND" It's the "of what he thought was still alive" bit that really gets me. it's like you just wanna say "dude, give it up!! all your friends have jobs/college now." it's like he's in a dream world or something. meh i dunno, that's just what i get from this song. when i hear it, i imaging him just walking along with big dilated pupils, all deluded and happy. but everything around him is falling apart: no college, no work, hurting friends/family, bad health etc. meh... |

fantastic! i love this song, it gets me in the mood for anything! i think it is about sex and/or cars. both are kind of dirty things hehe. it is a great driving song, really loud and travelling fast woo!!!! |

omg this makes me cry. i watched Yellow Submarine when i was about 5 years old (my dad was watching it) and it made me cry then- the Nowhere Man is just so pathetic and sad. i wanna give him a hug. i am so pleased that the Beatles befriended him in the movie :) |

for some reason this song makes me cry, it's got a really good beat to it, but the lyrics are sad. strippers do have souls too. and so do prostitutes (even though this song isn't about the latter) and the girl just wants to run away with the guys she loves. does anybody else get sad at this song? |

could it not be him that "up and left"? because he is saying she's wrong about everything, and she said he would keep her safe. then HE up and left, therefore prooving the girl wrong- he wont keep her safe. It sounds like he is leaving her- maybe she's nagging him. "Can make me drink until I ache." Basically, she's a nagger, and he's sick to death of her, and left her. He didn't mean to make her cry, but he's not sorry he left her. He was annoying. He is glad he left. Thats what it sound like to me. thoughts? |

sorry, i must add more: the guy must be really hot or something, coz the girls all fancy him. he seems selfish and mean, but i can detect a glimmer of emotion, when he sings; "And if you’d only take the time to look my way If you would only take the time to see well I might let you stay." Basically, if they'd only look beyong his good-looks then they might see the real him, and he then might want a relationship with them (i might let you stay). He seems kinda loney. |

well i thought it meant something like: this guy is singing about girls in general. he is kind of flippant and unpredictable, and they all think "they know him" (because they want to date him) but they don't. girls fancy him,he dates them, but only for sex: and once they've realized he's a user, they "look at the floor." Bus he doesn't care that they've all realized he's a user, because they've already "paid at the door" (as in, they've already slept with him). Hence him not being the "romantic type". he isn't looking for love or relationships. "Well I know that you want something and you want it from me" (they want commintment). He says back to them: "Would paying once or maybe twice be really such a crime?" basically, he says; well we can date eachother, but i want regular fun and sex (paying once or twice) well thats just the vibe a got from this song; a commitment-phobe who messes around with girls. they want him to settle, but he just wants fun. what do you think? :) |

well i see it as this: the singer is singing to "Flathead" telling her that he slept with another girl, but she was only second to flathead. he's convincing her he likes her best (i think Flathead is just a word for "dumb-ass, stupid girl" or something). and when it says: i heard they kicked the boy till he bled then stood around and said "oh my god" till she said bara bap bara ra ra ra (etc) i see it as some random boy that this gang beat-up, then the gang were like "oh my god" (guilty, shocked or something) but this girl just dismissed it, and said "bara bap bara ra ra ra" as if the beating wasn't important. like she is heartless. this girl he slept with is a bitch basically |
