I just wonder if anyone else noticed- I was intrigued by the reference to questions and answers in Sam's Town and Why Do I Keep Counting. It's almost backwards, though, in the beginning with Sam's Town, we are given an answer with no question- and then in Why Do I Keep Counting, we are given a question with no answer. The placement of these tracks on the CD- right before the the Enter- and Exitlude, also begs for comparisons to be drawn. The whole album seems to talk about life and how you spend your time and remorse about time passing- I kind of get the feeling that in some ways, this track asks if there if there is a way to increase the quantity of one's life, while Sam's Town replies that one shouldn't be so bothered with these heavy questions, and that instead, one should enjoy their life in the moment. To ask, to analyze, is wasting those precious moments you're so conscious of passing you by. |

I think it's about being so in love, or being so excited about being in love, the only thing holding you down to earth is your skin. It's like that feeling you get when your skin becomes irrelevant because it is so tangible, and you are consumed by the feelings within. It seems to me like he is in this sort of state, and feels out of sorts in a world that feels still and boring in comparison. He's waiting for something amazing to happen, something that measures up to his feelings. |
