That is exactly what I was thinking.

Neutral Milk Hotel – The King of Carrot Flowers Pts. 2 and 3 Lyrics 16 years ago
I really, really, really, REALLY liked this interpretation.

It may seem weird, but the way I see this song is through a combination of virtually everything everyone has said on this page: a birth and a war scene; "Jesus Chirst" as an exclimation that emphasizes love as well as a parellel to Anne Frank and those killed for NOT believing in Jesus Christ (perhaps a desperate plea of a persecuted jew?).

I just really like looking at things from different angles.
Or maybe I'm just indecisive.

Pink Floyd – Jugband Blues Lyrics 17 years ago
With knowing Syd's history, I find this song to be really profound, in a sense- it's his last contribution to the band, and I find his "insanity" (either actual or pinned on him, whichever you believe) is very obvious. I've heard theories that he just "pretended" to be mad to mess with people, which gives new meaning to the line: "And what exactly is a dream? And what exactly is a joke?"

I'm not trying to suggest he's insane or anything. It's inappropriate to try and "diagnose" his condition without actually knowing him, or possessing a degree in psychology, for that matter. I just find Syd Barrett really really facinating, and this song is a complete personification (I don't know if that's the word I'm looking for...) of him.

Pink Floyd – See-Saw Lyrics 17 years ago
I'm not sure if I like this song or not, but saying it's dull seems a little harsh.
It has an interesting melody and nice lyrics, at least. In fact, lyric-wise, this is one of Rick's better songs (a lot of the time his lyrics just don't seem to flow, but these do).
...But I'm very biased towards Rick Wright, so maybe that's clouding my vision- er, hearing.

The Beatles – Old Brown Shoe Lyrics 17 years ago
"George, you are the most under-appreciated man of the last hundred years. If you'd been in any other band you would have your name on the queens pyjamas.
respect."

Yes yes yes yes. Best statement ever.
I really really like this song. The version on the Anthology is... interesting. It's not that good but it's not bad... it's worth hearing, at least.

"I want a short haired girl who sometimes wears it twice as long."
At the moment, these are my favorite lyrics. Haha. I just really like that line.
Also, I find it interesting that he says, "If I grow up" instead of "when I grow up". That always makes me think that, the future isn't set in stone, or promised to anyone. I dunno.
But yes. Amazing song.

Stars – Reunion Lyrics 17 years ago
Hmm. I always thought the lyrics were,
"But when I reach to touch your hand
You struck my cheek"
Like, she didn't want him to, or something. That's what it always sounded like to me. But the other way works too.
It's a great song, either way.

The Beatles – Los Paranoias (Medley) Lyrics 17 years ago
I always thought John was hysterically crying "I can't take it! I can't take it!!" in the backround, but now that you mention it, I guess it does sound more like, "I can't make it!!" And that makes more sense, too.
But never-the-less, this songs is great. : D

Pink Floyd – Shine On You Crazy Diamond (Parts VI - IX) Lyrics 18 years ago
I always thought the lyric was "Come on you poor child", but I guess "boy child" works, too...
I wasn't a big fan of this song. Then I heard the last part of lyrics-
"Come on you boy child, you winner and loser, come on you miner for truth and delusion, and shine."
I don't know why, but that just really struck me. The truth and delusion part mostly. I don't know. It's amazing that way.

The Beatles – We Can Work It Out Lyrics 18 years ago
"Maestro's the only one who's getting the point here, in my humble opinion. Though the lyrics seem to be promoting understanding, the narrator is asking the girl to see his point of view. If she doesn't, he says, things may fall apart. He NEVER entertains the notion that he should try to see it her way. It's always seemed to me to be poking fun at a character who can't see that his own stubbornness is sabotaging his relationship. (If this isn't true, then the lyrics are some of the most unintentionally insensitive I've ever seen!) "

EXACTLY what I was thinking. Couldn't have said it better myself.

John Lennon – God Lyrics 18 years ago
There's so much pain in this song. But it's so beautiful in this way.
I remember reading somewhere that the lines "God is a concept by which we measure our pain" was directed at McCartney. But don't quote me on that. For all your people saying that John believes in God... um... what? Sorry, but I think you're interpreting this as exactly the opposite of what he was saying. For anyone who knows John Lennon, it's obvious that he does not believe in God. Like he says, he just believes in himself. You're using this as just another way of making everything about your God and your religion. It's okay if you believe in God, but you can't take this song and make it about your religion. It just doesn't work like that.
...Sorry if I offended anyone. That was just bothering me. ._.;

The Beatles – I Want to Hold Your Hand Lyrics 18 years ago
Hey, all you people who say this song sucks:
SCREW YOU.
This is pretty much the cutest song I've ever heard. And it does NOT say "I get high." Sure, the Beatles did drugs. But you can't assume they started so early. Sheesh. It's obvious by the innocence of the lyrics that they weren't high.
And people who are saying "it's stupid pop, rock is so much better blah blah blah..." c'mon now. I hate the pop that's out there now, but you have to recognize how revolutional the Beatles were when they came out with this stuff and nothing like it had been heard before. The Beatles have always been revolutionary, from their "pop" to their "rock", they were all about trying new things. So don't put it down, you gotta remember that this was another time. And this is why they were the most influential band ever. And I love them. : D

Avril Lavigne – Girlfriend Lyrics 18 years ago
"i think avril is implementing freudian psychology to express herself more sufficiantly.
the line
"You're so fine,
I want you; mine,
You're so delicious,"
in particular shows avril's genius prose. her love for the man is shown with metaphorical connotation, and also exposes a freudian complex relating sexual desire to food.

no, i'm just joking. Avril Lavigne is a douchey shit and her music is douchey shit. only douchey shits like her music"

I pretty much laughed for an hour after reading that. XD

it sounds like a girl saying something....Anyone know what that is?"

I totally know what you're talking about. After listening to it a bunch of times, I'm pretty sure its not English. I'm betting it's Russian. (Well, duh...) If anyone can figure out what it means, I'd be very grateful.

The Decemberists – The Infanta Lyrics 18 years ago
I personally think the lyric would make more sense if it was "to the heir" than "to the air", but that's just me.
Does anyone know how young the infanta is? 'Cause she could be a young teenager, but then when you look at it, she could also be a newborn, as she has a nurse who is carrying milk for her, and they refer to her as "the babe".

"first of all, the people that dont like avril lavinge: then who the hell do u like? i mean, what aly and aj?? umm zac efron? miss.no voice vennessa ann hudgens? hilar duff? u know, not many people understand this becuase most avril haters are disney channel lovers and complete teenage ditzes."

Um... what? I think you mean that most Avril LOVERS are teenage ditzes. I hate Avril and every other artist you mentioned. You obviously live in a bubble or have no idea what other people listen to. There are other artists other there than cheap, sell out artists like Avril and those others ones you mentioned.

"becuase my parents are proffesinal music critics, and this is one the artisits they think have a voice."

Sure, she may have a good voice, but that doesn't make her lyrics any less mindless.

"I mean what the hell r u ditzes thinking saying avril lavinge is crap?"

This line just made me laugh.
Please learn how to spell before you attempt to argue that Avril Lavigne is good music, or no one will take you seriously.

Death Cab for Cutie – Expo '86 Lyrics 18 years ago
To me, this song has always been about waiting to be in a relationship, and then waiting for that person to dump you, in an endless cycle. The lines, "And it's strange, they're all basically the same, so I don't ask names, anymore" are saying that all the women he's with have been the same, so he doesn't even want to know their names, because they don't really matter to him. I love this song so much.

Sufjan Stevens – John Wayne Gacy, Jr. Lyrics 18 years ago
This is such a beautiful song- I agree with everyone else; when he sings, "Oh my god..." I always get the chills. However, I disagree with people who say that the last line is about how all sins are equal in the eyes of the lord. Everytime I read song meanings about Sufjan, I automatically disregard anything that mentions christianity. True, Sufjan is a christian, but I really don't think you should assume that every song is based on his faith. I think the last lines are simply saying that everyone has secrets, not we are all sinners.

Sufjan Stevens – The Predatory Wasp of the Palisades Is Out to Get Us! Lyrics 18 years ago
At first I took an interest in this song because it seemed like Sufjan was literally in love with his best friend, but after analyzing it, I've come to the conclusion that he's just talking about how much he enjoyed spending time with his best friend, and the kissing part is kissing the spot where the "wasp" stung, not kissing him on the lips. I think this might be my favorite song on the album. Just overall, amazing.
