Peter Gabriel – Solsbury Hill Lyrics 18 years ago
I think this one really carries a lot of layers, which makes it particularly awesome, in my mind.

Leaving Genesis, of course. But it's hard to ignore the identification with Jesus. Reading what people have said about Bath as a Pagan locale enriches that even more.

I love the layers. It really does just come down to a process of discovering one's own path; breaking free of earthly/social ties and picking the one true to you in spite of what people think. Once you make the decision, you're not so attached to objects and go 'home' to where you really belong.

Robbie Williams – Feel Lyrics 18 years ago
I didn't know about the drugs bit, but that definitely makes sense. I connect with this song on the basis of a troubled past, one which I could easily see leading a person to self-medicate and fall into addiction.

Stuck in a sort of 'alternate reality', looking for support, "real love" that was never given by family, and thus affects the way you think "my head speaks a language I can't understand" and created a "hole" in the soul. It's a state of depression/purgatory, wanting more, from life but so afraid as to commit to anything, anyone, because you were always told it just wasn't okay. There's a lot of confusion and pain there.

Big Country – In A Big Country Lyrics 18 years ago
This is sung to a troubled person. It's validating, "I've never seen you look like this without a reason" and acknowledges sadness in the experience, but encourages a more positive outlook. "That's a desperate way to look for someone who's still a child" seems to sound like the person is being a bit dramatic. But the overall message is to not let one thing get in the way. Yea, things won't be miraculously beautiful, but it can still be good. Don't let the pain in the realization of whatever you just discovered rule your life- fight for what you want, because you deserve it.

I like this song, but I never really "heard" the lyrics until it was played on the radio twice in a row the other night, and I realized there must be a message in it for me...
