David Bowie – Space Oddity Lyrics 18 years ago
To everyone who said that this is a respone to the Apollo 13 film with Tom Hanks, it is simply not because Space Oddity was written in 1969, whereas the film was made in 1995. And it couldnt have been about the Apollo XIII (13) either because that launched April 11, 1970. Whereas, yet again, Space Oddity was still written and recorded in 1969.

Johnny Cash – Cocaine Blues Lyrics 18 years ago
Sorry, givinwhatfor. But Cash was not addicted or had any Cocaine problem.
I'm an avid Cash fan and a police officer suspected him of smuggling heroin in from Mexico, but when they got him, he was smuggling prescription drugs and amphetamines (speed pills).

But he didn't have a drink problem nor a Cocaine problem. At the height of his drug problem, Cash's brother, Tommy, is quoted to say of Johnny that he was on 400 pills a day, 200 to take him up and 200 to take him down.

R.I.P. Johnny - the world is a lesser place without your presence.

Johnny Cash – Man in Black Lyrics 18 years ago
Whilst, comment #4 by brigante133 says that he got darker in his stuff with Rick Rubin, that is irrelevant because this was not done under the American Recordings label.

Cash should have been president.

I can't really decipher any anti-Christian message in it, but there's definately a pro-Christian theme, seeing how Johnny was a religious man, you can understand why.

R.I.P. Johnny

Johnny Cash – One Piece at a Time Lyrics 18 years ago
Hey, Joshs1ofakindxj, when he sings, "But the big stuff we snuck out y buddy's mobile home", he is saying that the parts that were too big to sneakout in his lunchbox, he got his friend to take home, probably by stashing it in the boot (trunk) of the car. I.e. door panels, seat, tires, etc, etc.

Hope this helps.

A song which is amazing, and Cash makes amazing, on the album, Orange Blossom Special.

Furthermore, it's a song commonly associated with Ireland, but it was written by an Englishman!

Johnny Cash – The Highwayman Lyrics 18 years ago
Sorry to be pedantic duano1212, but stanza 3 is Kris, not Chris. Just being polite.

I think it's about reincarnation, or perhaps because he was highwayman, was refused entry to heaven, and as in Ghost Riders in the sky, he must forever ride in the sky trying to catch the devils herd. But in the case of the highwayman, he'll never be allowed into heaven, and so is reincarnated. Perhaps?

I think the main theme, is reincarnation.

Johnny Cash – Big River Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah, 'decomposingb4u', you're right. The song Cash wrote about his memories of his farm becoming flooded by a river, I think in Kingsland, Arkansas, was Five Feet High and Rising.
