This song is about Chapter 24 of the I-ching. FU - The Great return. This is about the 4 kingdoms of mankind, and how they are all destroyed by a great catyclysm. There is a cycle called the great return, and we are in the 5th kingdom of mankind. According to the mayans it ends in dec 21st 2012 by earthquake on the winter solstic :) (this is also why stone henge marks the solstice and other monuments.) The time is when the month of winter solstice, when the change is due to come. After the 5th kingdom is the 6th which is considered to be the great darkness. "the seven is the number of the young light it forms when darkness isn't creased by one" That lyric is incorrect.. it should be... "the seven is the number of the young light it forms when darkness is increased by one" Darkness (6) is increased by 1... = 7... 7 is the young light... when everything returns to 1 (the day the lord rests) Genesis is a copy of Fu... said in a different way. That was my first interpretation above before seeing the Syd Barrett biography. Another interpretation could be... Syd barrett did a bunch of acid, he started losing his grip on realty. Roger waters was his best friend and felt he was losing his friend as he slipped in to this psychosis... Barrett was having a hard time distinguishing good from evil, pleasure and pain. It really depressed Waters at the time as he was losing his best friend. Rogers felt that his friend was there right in front of him, but yet, he was trapped in this cage of his own mind. Roger waters also always talks about the war and i think mixes some of this idea in there as well. The metaphor that Syd Barrett is trapped within his own mind as someone (like his dad) is trapped in the war... |

This song is about a guy in the war... he is captured by the enemy. He is contemplating good from bad (heaven and hell) blue skies from pain... He ponders about all the people (hereos) who have died and turned in to ghosts. We burnt down the trees. He is probably going to die where he is and he knows it. He feels that he made a mistake and could have coasted through the war, but he got captured and he is either locked in a cage or trapped by the enemy in some way. He is thinking about the one he loves, his soul mate... and that he will never probably see her again for one last time. |
