Ooh I love the idea of this song being a parallel to pyramid song, I can totally see that. I came to this site hoping to find alternate lyrics to "weird fishes" because that's what I kept hearing, and it was ruining the song for me. The words are almost laughable, because it's so out of place... (tangent here, sorry-) It's interesting how so many people want the lyrics to be "weird fishes"... but that really makes no sense to me! I would prefer "we're fishes", it just sounds more legit, less random. And also, while one take is a strange/misplaced statement, the other take is more of a metaphor, which is easier to connect to... I'm hoping the title is just a reference to the mispronunciation, like when bands name their songs after what the crowds hear ("Play that... weird fish song!") Kind of like how many songs in Hail to the Thief have double titles, many simply being wordplay or puns based on what people think they hear in the song? Hmm. Sorry for the ramble. |

| yeah! I like forgotten's interpretation as well... I don't know why, but I instantly thought of 1984 when I read these lyrics. Something about not getting any big ideas and suppressing your thoughts... anyone? | |

Muse needs songs like these. With the wailing. For variety. This song gets me through rough spots haha |

^ ^ ^ (emphasis on the redundancy and dullness) And doesn't the next song on the cd declare "It's the music that we choose... get the cool, keep a groove on" ??? :D |

I remember the first time I heard this song, years ago. My friend was driving me to school and I heard the violin and yelled "I LEARNED THAT SONG ON PIANO, IT'S IN MY SUZUKI BOOK!", to which she replied "Well that's sort of the song's title..." I was raised on the Suzuki Method, it's a terribly boring way to learn classical music. You have a tape/cd and listen to the songs you will learn over and over, and go straight by the books. It's the reason I don't play much piano anymore, the repetition was very dull and I never got to learn any songs that I wanted to play. After 9 years it totally burned me out. As for the meaning, I think it's completely backwards from what people have posted so far... I think the lyrics are being sarcastic, and saying that fast progress and music theory only do so much. Just light up a bong and jam! "and also every day, every lesson, we have to make sure they learn about tonalization" |
