Great song! one of my favorite Furs songs. As to what the song may mean, I think it's about a girl that he can't stop thinking about. However, it's driving him crazy "When the music goes down, and the traffic is stopped, and nobody talks at all", he's still thinking about her. |

| Man I love this song. I can't believe nobody even put the lyrics up here. The meaning, I feel, is quite obvious. It's the view of war (more specifically in the Lebanon) from the view of two completely different people. The first is a woman, who sees the war as something ruining her life, which wasn't great to begin with, but better than during the war. The man is a soldier, who is there "fighting the war" for the wrong reasons. The lines "But now he finds he is at war, weren't we supposed to keep the peace?" really outlines this. | |

| i have a good point for everyone who believes in this "LNM theory". How do you explain the picket lines at the man's job? Anyway, I'm going in a slightly different direction. The factory that this man runs/works at is creating a pollutive, possibly nuclear waste and sending it in the air. This makes it's way from the factory, which I'm assuming is in England or some country close to Scotland, to the "Scottish loch" (being any lake, not Loch Ness). This mutates the organisms in the lake, causing them to become hostile, emerge from the water safely, and attack the other beings in their habitat (the cottage). This is in synchronicity with the man, who "walks unhindered through the picketl ines today" after being changed by the corruption of his "so-called superiors". This causes him to become hostile as well, and attacks the others in his habitat (the home). This is just what I think, feel free to criticize. | |

| I think it's an innuendo. A lot of people see water (rain) as pure. The "Black Hole Sun" "coming" and washing away the rain could be about losing his purity (religion), but using an innuendo to show that. I'm sure a lot of you think I'm crazy, but we'll never know | |
