Gaius is right. He sees everything as a stage now. He just wants to dance because of how he feels. The moon is a mirrorball is a pretty obvious reference to a disco hall and the sirens becoming violins is genius. Everything makes him want to dance. |

Think it's about waking up with someone who you've realised you love. He hadn't realised it before, but this recognition has dawned on him as he woke up with the literal dawn. I agree with screenager as well. Like the love means he's ready for anything, let the day in because whatever challenges it brings, he can overcome them. |

I bought a ticket to see the Shins based on hearing this one song and now I can't stop listening to them. I know I'm just one of those latecomer fans who only heard of them thanks to Garden State and therefore a load of the hardcores hate me, but I don't think it matters how you hear of them, the Shins have changed my life. They're lyrics are pure poetry, I find endless hope in them and it's amazing how James Mercer can paint a picture with metaphors. I owe the Shins a lot, and I bet I'm not the only one. |

Love this song, "cut the mustard" is a phrase that means you can reach expectations. 'I can cut the mustard' in this case means he can do what he needs to do.
I think Zooey's right, it's poignant to me because I've been through a similar thing very recently. |

"I think I recognise them from the last time I was here" means that the priest/vicar/whatever has a set series of lines he reads at a funeral. So it's very impersonal, "He was a good man, he will be missed." Stuff like that, which can apply to anyone.
Could be very wrong of course.
The way he wants to be taken 'home' suggests he's accepted death and is no longer afraid of it, and the Mystic Energy is some unknown or Divine feeling he has that welcomes him into death.
That's my interpretation anyway.
Meanings aside, this song is bloody awesome! |

This is a beautiful song. It's very emotional the way that he sings it. This and Shake Those Windows are my top 2 Athlete songs. So amazingly expressive. I think it's about memories of a happy trip (to Dungeness, probably...) and a relationship around that time. |
