| O K. Call me naive, but I thought this song was about dropping a bad habit (drugs, smoking, etc..) and the celebration of the power that comes from taking control of your life. When I didn't pay that much attention to the lyrical content, it helped me quit smoking. So, by and large (no pun intended) the song is about power, attitude, and control. | |

I started college this year (I turned 45 this year) and during philosophy class this pre 20 year old made a remark that led the professor to say "Someday when you grow up you will understand and then you can say what ever you want to"...... At this pint this part of the lyric went screaming through my head........{""And these children that you spit on As they try to change their worlds Are immune to your consultations They're quite aware of what they're going through""} I turned to the young man and reminded him of the professors age and how she may have forgotten Pink Floyd's "The Happiest Days of Our Lives". We both laughed and understood the issue. |

I think Alice is comparing religion with reality. The genius is where Alice uses religious stories to make his point. Put more simply, I think Alice is asking the religious aspect for help in the real world. He makes this clear with the part of the lyric.... "This world is such perfection" (What a sight) "It's just like paradise" (For my eyes) "A truly grand creation" (What a sight) "From up here it looks so nice" (For my eyes)...... Then in response to this he is offering evidence to the Religious community..... Why don't you, come down to It's such a brutal planet It's such an ugly world Why won't you, come down to.... I think this is why Alice Cooper still is on tour. I think he is explaining his actions. (F Y I Alice was saved a few years ago) This is a thought from my simple mind. |
