I feel like this song is probably about the French Revolution, and it's the peoples cry for justice in a time of brutal oppression, it's dynamic lyrics move me in a way i've never been moved, and i feel it is historically and still today an extremely telling and important song |

it's definitely not supporting the government in any way, a rare completely political song from cake, and one of the best cake lines i think..

It's definitely him repeating stuff that his girlfriend has said about him, she finds all the faults in him, but acts like she's perfect so he's not fit to touch the hem of her garment, he's definitely not just saying stuff about himself that would make no sense with the chorus, i don't think mccrae's big on songs that praise his girlfriend :P |

I think he's saying that to him coming from her friend always referred to girlfriend and so it implied that she loved him, but he's angry because instead of hearing love ,a 4 letter word, he only heard end, a 3 letter word, he adds coming from you to clarify that it would only be that way with her, all this crap with the 4 letter word being a swear is dumb, that's not cake's style.. |

after looking at the lyrics again I'd have to say that last interpretation seems right, except for the being drunk part, for some reason this song reminds me of casablanca now, with the being in a different country away from a long lost love and life moving on... |

I think this is definitely about when you're in a depressed state and you're full of fear about everything, like hearing a news story about murders and thinking your family was involved or thinking loved ones might be in trouble and having irrational fears grow, cool blue reason, like your state of reasoning when you're blue. or depressed, just kinda jumps into your mind randomly sometimes, just another one of Cake's awesome observations about little things in life that people don't talk about a lot |
