| Bad Religion – Bad Religion Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"But his belief is a religon itself: one must not agree with religon." Oh, oh PLEASE spare me that "atheism is a religion!" bullshit Graffin happens to be a Deist, too, which I find to be kind of a paranchronism in this day and age, but whatever. And I agree with Geckat about the function of religion. There's many more anthropological uses for religion than enforcing the social contract, but yeah the Abrahamic table of commandments are definitely a good example of that. |

| Mindless Self Indulgence – Shut Me Up Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I dunno, I agree with Johnny C. (ah, the MSi-Vasquez connection is alive and well). Despite all evidence to the contrary, I can't look at this song any other way. It's sex sex sex! | |

| Bérurier Noir – Manifeste Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
«Manifeste» is French for "Manifesto." This song is basically a list of things the singer hates; a rough-hewn outburst that is more like a battle-cry than a manifesto. Here's a translation: I hate my country and I hate France, I hate the fatherland and I hate people, I'm nothing but a survivor of the red army's soldiers, Don't believe anything else and kill yourself. I hate the power [rough slangy translation] annd I hate orders, I hate the laws and I hate force, I'm nothing but a survivor of the black army's soldiers, I'm nothing but a survivor and kill yourself. I hate the army and I hate war, I hate priests and I hate hate, Oh I hate weapons and I hate tears, I hate toys and I hate bombs, I'm nothing but a suvivor of the blue army's soldiers I'm nothing but a survivor and kill yourself. Soviet Socialism, Militaristic cataclysm, Alternative success, Anarchy in the republic... Anarchy in the republic... Anarchy in the republic... Anarchy in the republic... Anarchy in the republic... I love the riff. And the drum machine makes a cool clocklike ticky-tock sound. |

| Reagan Youth – It's A Beautiful Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
This is a biting and sardonic song rife with black humor that is narrated from the point of an American everyman trying to have a nice little summer barbecue. It opens with him expressing his blatant disregard for the environment and his ignorance of the world around him--all he wants is beer and hot dogs. The song takes an ironic turn when "one of those A-rab countries" starts dropping bombs on the barbecue. The song becomes meta-ironic when Dave Insurgent sings "It's a beautiful day for a barbecue; this time the hot dog's you. Oh wow, man, that makes me think of karma." The song has no clear message; it's more of a cynical parable that you laugh at mean-spiritedly. At least, I do. I love the riff towards the end, that starts adter "talking about some FAILED NEGOTIATION?" |
