In addition to that, a lot of these ideas probably sprout from Midnight Show by The Killers. That's about abducting someone in a car, with a blanket in the backseat, etc. Only in that one he quite clearly drowns her in the moonlight. |

I know this sounds stupid, but I actually get impressions of un-mutual love, suicide as a result of the lack of mutuality and even rape. I haven't really read into it but those things spring to mind. I mean, to begin with, she doesn't sound too consenting of the whole scenario. Hitting him probably isn't quite literal, but it pieces together nicely with the rest of my theory. He certainly seems to be obsessed, and it sounds like maybe he's trying to get her drunk to make raping her easier. And if he's leaving her with the love they made, it almost sounds as though he wants it and she doesn't, but he doesn't care. The fact that no one would know gives me the impression that he's almost abducted her having been stalking her or something, but I get the impression that they were friends but he was unstable and wanted more or something. The whole secrecy to me denotes suicide, as it's more forbidden, and maybe even that he thinks nobody cares enough to notice. Again, the three fingers bit seems to be about swearing at him, which sort of correlates. The suicide parts come with the fume line and the quitting alone line. Perhaps quitting is dying? Maybe they were both suicidal then. The way he sings that line suggests something more than just love; frustration, anger, something more violent. That bit reminds me of X.Y.U. Just throwing some ideas out there. I really don't get it. |
